Comment:
Mr. Kato lectures for the whole class time and will repeat a lot of information week after week. There is no room to ask questions or anything. You simply sit there and listen to him ramble for an hour and 15 minutes.

Comment:
Took two classes w/Kato (req'd for major). We had one thing in common: we both wished we were somewhere else. Despite his years of experience, Kato consistently fails to make class interesting. He also doesn't bother getting to know any of his students, even the JOUR majors. Avoid if you can: this guy is just waiting to retire and collect benefits.

Comment:
Professor Kato is a good guy overall. I'd rather talk story with him than actually listen to a class lecture. He's very passionate about what he does and would help you as long as you ask for it. This class is more of a "work-your-worth" kinda class, and sometimes, his grading is unclear. Make sure that you know how to write a lead for Newswriting.

I've never failed a class until I got here. Doesn't even give you credit for doing assignments. CONSTANTLY giving people grades like 620 and 3050. If I wasn't trying or if I forgot to turn in assignments, this would be different. I have turned in EVERY assignment (and they aren't even half-assed) but I'm still failing. If I get a D, I'll be happy

He has a habit of saying "uhh or um" in every sentence...not a hyperbole. Really bad teacher, but seems to know a lot about the field.

Terrible professor, despite his experience in the field. Has a speech impediment that makes it very difficult to pay attention or to understand what he's trying to get across. Makes you feel ignorant when you ask a question. Very rude and does not help students whatsoever.

He does have a hard time spitting out whatever it is he has to say, but I think he's a nice guy. He is helping me get an internship and at least he knows his stuff. We should take more note of what he has to say instead of making fun of him, because he's been around a lot longer than us and has lot so connections to the industry. Stop hating guys!!

He tends to talk a lot and has a stutter, but if you listen to what he's saying it's interesting. He has a generous grading system. I took it summer and it wasn't bad. He gives you all the notes and there is only 3 exams. No other work.

His law class is boring, but it'll help you in the real world of politics and defending yourself against people who will fool you into thinking you did something wrong. In 402's Meditations willkill u if you don't do them early. Speech delays aside, he's a great person who will present you with internships u cnt find

I would suggest anyone considering Journalism as a major to sit in through his Media Law class to see if you can take it. He goes on and on and even the best student finds themselves day dreaming. But most of his test are multiple choice (watch out for trick questions) and he gives study guides so he's not impossible by any means.

A cute older man...very passionate about communications but doesn't make it very interesting to learn for yourself. Tests and quizes are super easy and he is very easygoing when it comes to assignments...just make sure you keep up with what you need to do.

Lectures are boring and I found it hard to get up in the morning to go to this class. Was somewhat interesting and I aced all the quizzes and tests. You just have to read the book on your own because it is not used or discussed in the class but is the main focus of the midterm/final. Not worth the time, but if you're stuck in it-just read the book.

This guy is getting old. Plain and simple. Keeping you focused on Journalism's roots is his mission, but he needs to involve the students more. It is true that mediocre students will give mediocre responses to this class, but who can blame them? An easy class to pass, but a harder one to pursue journalism after...

One of the worst prof's I have had. It seemed a waste to fight traffic to sit in his class. Lectures covered little more than the average person would already know and the prof. was not only boring but rude to other students. It is an EASY A if you keep up with current events and turn in your reactions to lectures. Attendance is monitored daily.
