Best prof I had! Most personable prof! He tries hard to get to know his students. He likes to crack jokes, talks with lots of expression, really easy to understand. Consider yourself lucky if you get him as a prof

This was an incredible DCM class. It was Dystopia and Utopia: A Study of Science Fiction Novels. It was soo awesome! He is incredible to interact with, very understanding, very caring. He loves good discussion, he respects his students. So much fun! If you do the work, grades should not be a problem.

Fondse is a great guy. This class is not difficult if you are good at reading the assigned reading on time. You can expect a quiz on the assigned material every day of class. Really a funny prof who you will enjoy!

Didn't like him at the start because he failed my first paper but he grew on me to become one of my favorite profs ever. He does have his unwavering opinions though and agreeing with them won't hurt your grade.

Changed my life! Honestly, took him second semester freshman year, on path to dropping out. Did horribly on 1st paper, but he allowed me to rework and received 1st A in college. Read following papers out loud to class because he liked them so much and I realized I could handle this college thing. Started trying, went on to MBA and great career.

Fondse is possibly the most engaging prof you can have at Calvin. He is clearly very passionate about the subject material, and stresses that you try to be as well. Journals are kind of a drag, but otherwise the class was fine. I highly recommend him.

Fondse was the BEST DCM teacher ever. I didn't read one of the books and still got an A in the class. He basically just likes creative writing and likes to see you "struggle with the hard questions." He does what the best profs do - teach you life lessons that stick with you. So great. Get him.

Pretty solid prof. Steep grading curve (96.4 is an A-) but also gives out 100s like candy.

If you're an English major, you will be very bored in his Engl 101 class. He spends most of his time talking about past students and there's very little actual discussion on material. The books were easy. Avoid for Engl 101, I hear the interim class he leads is great.
