I had her for ENGL1701 (Creative Writing) and I loved the class so much I signed up to take a class with her again next semester. She makes a 2 and a half hour class fly by. She's witty and engaging and honestly one of the most caring professors I've had at UConn. Definitely take a class with her if you get the chance!

Take any class you can with Dr. Barreca! She is extremely intelligent and witty, and is willing to go above and beyond for her students. A fair deal of work is given, but you'll learn a lot of information that will prove to be relevant in other courses. She is hands down one of the best professors you'll find at UConn, and one of the best people.

Gina Barreca is one of this kindest, most caring people I know. She pushes you to do your best, as every professor should, but very little actually do. She's tough, but the experience was worth the work. It was an honor to be a student in her class.

Gina is amazing. She helped me so much, pushed me so far, and most importantly, she took an interest in my life beyond school. She helped me figure out what to do with my English degree and how to get there. She doesn't just teach English. She teaches you practical life lessons that you can employ immediately. Hands down, best teacher at UConn.

I took all of the classes that she taught while at UConn, varying from a class on "Femme Fatales in Literature" to a concentration on Fay Weldon. Brilliant woman; smart, funny writer; expects a lot from her students. If you answer a question, you will NEED to back it up with something from the book. Took her Writing Workshop for my creative writing concentration and it was amazing! Wonderful professor who really cares about her students. The once a week class WAS hard to drag myself to, but once you're there time flies. Definitely taking a class with her again.

Forces you to think-so if that's not something you're into--stay away! Forces you to read--you will not be able to skim--calls for deep understanding but well worth it. Barreca's class is both a pleasure and a learning experience. I am taking her next fall.

Once a week class is absolutely brutal to sit through. Loves to hear herself talk. Might be interesting if you are a book-club kind of person because thats what she treats it like. Book choices not bad but her analysis killed it for me.

Professor Barreca is like the perfect combination of hot and tough...I mean really hard. I worked my ASS off in her class...gladly...those chili peppers you see don't lie.
