Blends Oxford style teaching with the common lecturing environment. Be prepared to TALK because in discussion you will find yourself either unprepared looking silly or able to solidify your thoughts on the literature with her guidance. Dr. Selman was by far one of the hardest teachers I've ever had. If I didn't care about taking ANOTHER English class, I would have dropped her class. She doesn't explain things clearly and doesn't use Blackboard often. She teaches you then leave you to defend for yourself.

She is passionate, knowledgeable, informed, humorous, helpful, & when she sees that you are fully engaged in all things Literature, she will go the extra mile. She is difficult but you will know the material. I rarely missed for I enjoyed every second of her class, for you are achieving your goals by doing as she expects. She is a blessing!!!

I took class online. As long as you do the work she asks you for you will be fine. Test are hard. She does give Wimba lectures that will help you ace the test though. Essays are from your own discussion question answers and she gives comments to help direct you. She knows her stuff and she's willing to help! Would recommend the class.

Dr. Sellman is a great teacher but honestly scared me to death. I think her bark is bigger than her bite though. I didnt like that 70% of our grade was not told to us so you had no idea if you passed or not until final grade was posted.I feel like I learned a lot but I don't want to take her again!!!! lol

She is FABULOUS!!! Very open to interesting essays. I wrote books, but she graded them fairly! Tests are HARD! But if you get her notes and study, do fine. She is VERY acerbic in her humor and she admits it from the beginning! This is COLLEGE she says! Cool Teacher, I wish I had her for Brit lit II!

She was intimidating at first, but then as the semester went on, I was able to figure out what she wanted from me. Good teacher but you need to be in class everyday, read the literature, and ask lots of questions. I was in her office every week getting the guidelines for papers and tests.
