She's condescending to the students, and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. She's very specific in what she wants, but she doesn't always make it clear. It's the first semester of the program, but she expects you to know everything right away.

Among elementary education majors, she is beloved as they've taken several classes with her with no alternative choice. For secondary education, we all despise her. She's condescending; she is rude in emails when questioned; she uses classroom control like a 1st grade teacher; and preaches assessment diversity while only giving memory based tests.

Good professor but definitely showed preference to the education majors. Necessary class for Speech Path. majors to take but didn't have any real merit to the program. She tried to help us out as much as possible.

She is a VERY particular (borderline dictatorial) teacher. For the two biggest assignments, the rubrics and instructions are like 10 pages EACH and she will take points off for the smallest reasons. In my opinion the lack of freedom stunts future teachers' ability to grow and learn.

Professor Howell is a very nice person.She doesn't explain her assignments well at all. When you email her to ask for further clarification, she gives you the same example she gave in class. Her concept maps are pretty easy once you know exactly want she wants. I didn't like that she would email us with more work as if her class was my only class.

I've read some of the other posts about her being interesting but she must have had a bad semester when I took her. She's very opinionated and hypocritical and her lectures were very boring. Although, if you do the work and show up you'll probably get a good grade.

This class was a great combination of theory and practice. She lectured but we also had some interesting discussions. You have to pay attention but the stories about her own teaching experiences always related to the theories we were talking about. I feel as if I not only learned how to teach but why.

Awesome instructor! She knows her stuff but she doesn't condescend. She was always concerned that we understood the assignments and we didn't have to be graded on some silly group project like in lots of education classes.

Teacher is very boring! You don't need a book at all! Assignments very easy, but she doesn't explain directions very well. Please ask questions!!! Wanted to fall asleep a couple of times, except when doing a group project. Easy A!!!

Don't waste your money getting the book you only need 1 chapter in it...copy someone elses...easy class people talk about anything but the subject and time goes fairly quickly...quizzes can be completed the first week of class and she would never know...If you want a blow off class take Howell if you want to learn something take someone else

Very unprofessional. Has no control of the class. She allows people to talk the entire class about nothing You will never learn anything relevant to the material. This class was a waste of money and time. Take someone else. She is irritable and edgy. People like her should not be teaching.

If you're interested in paying to teach yourself, then take this class. The class is basically 3 hours of people talking about their experiences, most of the time not having anything to do with class. We never opened the book or talked about anything relating to class. Very unprofessional and unorganized.
