Most difficult prof i've encountered. One of those types of people who assumes you're as smart as him and when he speaks it's as if he's addressing a room full of PhD level associates. In a class of 54 students we had around 10 left after the midterm. Tried taking his Emotion course but didn't want to end up with a 50 (i'm an 80 avg. student).

Dr. Hayman is great! He is soooo smart! You can really learn a lot from his classes! You really have to study for the exams I dont feel that he asks anymore than for you to give the class your all! His papers are VERY easy as long as you adhere to his stipulations!

The most boring class I've ever had, which is why I rarely went to it. Tests aren't very hard as long as you read the text and do the sample questions which are posted online.

Like the people before me said, sample questions are EXTREMELY helpful. Do them, read a little, and you'll do really well. As for his reports, they are long and do require some work, but his criteria is very fair. It's hard to sit in his lectures, but at least attend one class a week. He's a genius.

prior comments are accurate; he lectures like he's talking to phd candidates. fine with me as i'm an upper year, but for a 2nd year course? he is a genius regarding cognitive psych though, VERY worldly in the field. don't need attend class, he posts everything on the web, sample exam questions too.

Do NOT take his Learning & Memory class - it's the equivalent of 2 or 3 classes in terms of work! Completely unreasonable! To his credit, he is a nice guy and mega intelligent, but is more suited to the post doctoral level, ie, he's very helpful but you may leave more confused than before.

he clearly knows what he's doing...maybe a little too well at times, so he frequently goes off on tangeants and it's difficult to keep track of what exactly is being discussed. the fact that he has VERY poor public speaking skills makes lectures TORTURE since "um" is apparently his punctuation

All I can say is ... uhhhh ... what is he talking about. Don't even bother asking a question, he's so wordy and clinical that you'll be more confused than before you asked it. The sad part is, I find cog psych fascinating, and he makes it suck

HOW DID HE GET TO RE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT!? He is terrible at lectures. He expects you to write what is on the overhead as well as what is he talking about at the same time...Not helpful or compassionate to students. Sidetracks. Never take his class

I don't know how or why he is the department head. He obviously knows his stuff, but his lectures were unclear at best and he stammers all the time. He wasn't very receptive to discussion, either.
