This MATH 320 class is hardest one that I have ever taken and finished 2 Masters after that. However, Slade is an exceptional teacher that knows where you may struggle, he can keep attention of the class and he can make jokes. And he is passionate not just pure math but also about teaching which is very rear among people of his rank.

Dr. Slade is without a doubt the best professor I have had in my 4 years at UBC. He genuinely cares for his students, and is always accessible outside of class. In addition to being a remarkable lecturer he is also incredible for office hour help. Do be careful, the class is difficult.

Prof. Slade is amazing in every possible way. This is the second course I took with him. He is clear about the concepts and explains everything in both abstract and intuitive ways. His homework are hard, but they are designed in a way that will make you understand the key concepts. He is a clear example as to why UBC Math is ranked in top.

Dr. Slade is amazing. My prof sucks so I went to his section for the whole term. His 30 years of teaching experiences makes him an awesome instructor- not only does he teach well, he shows understanding of students and really makes you appreciate him. His final lecture was inspirational and I'll remember that longer than anything else!

A very good instructor who truly cares for teaching and his students. My only complaint is that he used an extremely stingy curve (despite many reassurances of scaling) that resulted in an average of 65% which was the lowest it has ever been for this class since 2004W. Otherwise, I would totally recommend him. Thanks for a great course Dr. Slade!

Best math professor I've ever had. Truly there for you and strongly believes that you can do well as long as you try and work hard, and very willing to help in any way he can. Excellent at explaining, and he's incredibly welcoming and friendly. He's got good wit and charming humor.

Slade does the best job anyone could ever do in making this extremely difficult course understandable, enjoyable and enlightening. He is organized, well-spoken and confident, and yet very kind. Go to all office hours!!! (Hard course - I saw math majors go from 99s to the class average. However, if it was another prof, things would be far worse.)

Fantastic class, one of the best professors that I've had to date. Very good speaker with lots of great relevant stories to keep things interesting, and extremely organized lecture notes. Tests are difficult - he'll make you think - but the homework does a good job preparing you. Couldn't have been more pleased with the course, A+.

Amazing lectures; I learned a lot. One of the best professors I've had. He's also pretty well-known in his field, and it was interesting to hear him talk about his research in the last couple of lectures. He's a tough marker though.

Very nice man, and helpful too. However the assignments are extremely difficult with no easy questions to ease you into the ideas, to the point where I gave up on most of them. We were also required to use Octave which we were never taught how to use.

Amazing prof!If you ever want to enjoy a math lecture, then Slade is the best prof you can have! Very clear lectures, makes it very clear what he expects of you and gets through the material with ease. I have never enjoyed a math class more.

He's a very good teacher. Problem is that the exam he sets are extremely difficult (or very easy.) In general there is seldom enough time to complete the exams and they are full of arithmetic. Then the grading is harsh, taking loads of marks off even if you understood the concept but didn't end up with the right answer.
