I really enjoyed his class. It's not an easy pass. You have to work for it. He expects you to come to class prepared, as in read the texts. I found that once you do that you will get a good grade because he goes through the text during class. Take lots of notes or you will fail. If you miss class you might fail the exam. He was very thorough.

He is very smart. Monotone but funny. However, not a great teacher. All he does is read from text and if you dont understand it you are screwed. Marks very hard - you gotta study hard core for his midterms and finals (most people fail). Paper is what brigs up most people's marks. Study and understand what he goes over in textbook. TAKE NOTES!!

I took this in hopes that it would be easy for my core requirements, but this is by far the worst I've ever done in a class. He goes incredibly fast and you read basically the entire textbook. If you're into phil or majoring in it, then take it. But this is the most unenjoyable and confusing and worthless class I will ever take. Hardest marker!!

Havers is great! he is knowledgeable, professional, respectful, kind, and his course on Social Justice has been my favourite at TWU so far. If you want to learn and push yourself, sign up for his classes. He is a hard marker, but you´ll definitely learn a lot.

Professor Havers without a doubt has an incredibly monotone voice, and yet he is absolutely hilarious. I look forward to his class every single day. He is engaging, knowledgeable, and caring. His tests are difficult, but he does let you know what's going to be in them. Definitely recommend taking PHIL 105 with him.

Dr. Havers has a brilliant mind. He's there to inspire and motivate those who are thirsty for knowledge, and he doesn't compromise the quality of his teaching for the sake of leveling.

He has a lot more respect for students than many of them appreciate. His commentaries are hard, but you learn a lot by writing them. If you need a good example, look him up on JSTOR. The man can write. He cares about ideas. Do the same if you want to do well in his courses. And it is possible to get good marks. Do the bonus assignments.

Don't overlook the content he offers in lectures. Having graduated with my phil BA from TWU, how you succeed is: (1) Write clear, verbatim notes from lectures; (2) Do the (short) readings; (3) Use your notes for exams and assignments. Final papers, like all phil papers, depend primarily on clarity, i.e., clear definitions and arguments.

This is the worst course that I ever have. He is a really hard marker on sentence structures and grammar. You have to really pay attention and drop notes (never use PPT, or other source except the text book), sometime he go through the material super fast. Don't take his class if you don't have to.

I expected the class to actually discuss Issues in Social Justice, instead he preached his right wing agenda against Islam. He is smug and profoundly arrogant. Must pretend to agree with everything he says or you won't pass. Some quotes: "All functioning democracies have a Christian base" "I feel sorry for anyone who has to teach about Islam"

Dr. Havers is loved by some and hated by others. To do well, write coherently and with a clear argument. In POLSPHIL 320, you write four long papers. Be clear and check for grammatical and spelling errors. He marks argumentation strictly. Take excellent notes, highlighting the passages in the textbook he reads in class. You'll thank yourself later

Really intimidating but only because he's super intelligent and knows exactly what he's talking about. If you don't like his lectureclass style you're probably just not a philosopher. Pay attention to what he says in class above all!!! and highlight quotes and sections of the reading he mentions in class.

Monotoned, hard to follow, unenthusiastic. Asked him multiple times for advice, he would not tell me anything of use. Passing tests requires more than knowing content. He not only marks on answers, but sentence structure and spelling. Is ultimately unclear about intentions of the course and what he requires for tests. Did not follow syllabus

Hands down worst professor I have ever had. His quizzes are so difficult and he's not willing to give any help if you need it. Boring, arrogant and extremely rude. I would highly recommend taking the course with a different prof.

Also too POLS 310, 314 and 203 with him. Best prof ever. You will learn a lot in his courses, but get ready to also work really hard. He is not an easy A, so if that's what you're after then drop the course. It is possible to get an A in a Havers course, but you will have to work very hard in order to get it.

I found this class easy. The readings are not simple if you haven't read philosophical texts before, but in class they are reviewed. You are graded based on two essay exams and a final, which is much like the essay exams. They are all open book. I recommend you prepare for them by highlighting key quotes in the text book.
