Dr. Thorn is an amazing professor! The fungi course he teaches may not seem interesting at first, but he is so knowledgeable in the topic and makes fungi seem so fascinating! His midterms and exams aren't too difficult, but definitely go to class because things he says show up on tests. Highly recommend taking a course with him!

I took a field course to Ecuador last summer with Dr. Thorn, and it was such an amazing experience. I learned so much about plants, insects and of course fungi. Although I walked in with no prior knowledge of fungi, Dr. Thorn's passion made it impossible not to have any interest myself. Also, he's hands down the most easy going prof I've had!

A very dedicated prof. Teaching biology of fungi, he makes the material easy to follow and guides you through it. You MUST go to class however. For exams he will provide a review sheet which helps a lot in his short answer exams. Very fair and lenient marking. Labs are very fair as well. He's very sweet and helpful, and extremely understanding.

AMAZING PROF! Best I've had so far. He made the material interesting, his lectures were interesting, he is an overall friendly and caring person who got to know everyone in class on a personal level. His enthusiasm to teach is apparent, this is what I liked the most. Very approachable with questions and concerns.

Very cool prof, we had a small class and he took the time to know everybody on a personal level and he knew all our names too! He's very knowledgable about plants and he loves taking us out on field trips. The end of the course became stressful but he did a good job helping us out, i recommend him and his course.

VERY nice guy, I highly recommend you ask him questions after class/lab and get to know him as a person. His course is tough but not impossible, just do your readings and study like you should with every other course. Tutorials were a bit boring but nothing negative to say other than that.

He's ok. Not an amazing lecturer, but to cut him some slack his material is ridculously boring. Rely on the textbook to do all your studying because he isn't too clear when explaining. Exams are fair to a certain level, designed so definitely no one weill get an outstanding mark but still very passable.

If you are on a suicide mission take this class! My advice: don't get near this class! He took an amazing course and butchered it with no mercy. Exams are unfair - more like a guessing game even if you studied the material and He doesn't know how to teach - very unclear of what he wants you to know. You have been warned!

Great guy, easy midterm, and leads you to think that the final would be just as easy...until you study your butt off for the final, and realize that it didn't help you one bit. Easy midterm = terrible final. Enough said.
