No respect for anybody who thinks different than himself. Definitely not a supporter of the military when stating to the class, "anybody who joins the military is an uneducated shmuck that had no other options and wanted to go play war."

He was very rude and he frequently emphasized that his opinions were better than ours, which is funny because he even admits his book has false information. He also graded our papers harshly, if your response didnt match his opinion, hed take points off. Avoid this professor at all costs

You will read a lot in this class. He was the worst professor I have had here. He is unclear what he expects from you and runs it as a discussion based seminar. You will not receive a high grade unless you are already in the field. Do NOT take him!

First, expect to write countless papers that you will not pass. Second, he makes you buy his book, which he admitted has false data in it. Pushes political beliefs on students , thinks he is better than this university, states that the students here are dumb, so on. He is not helpful to students and very rude. Do not take.

He gives a lot of tough love. If you do the work he asks you to do, you will not have any difficulty. It's a writing intensive course so be prepared to write. Read the books and be prepared to discuss them or the class drags on forever.

I was not a criminology major in a 600 level course for elective credit on a graduate degree. It was one of the hardest courses I have ever taken. We read HIS books about the topic. I would agree his is a pompous, know it all, but most of it comes from the fact that he does in fact know A LOT. However it can get tiring to have to listen to it.

Dr. Barak is one of the most arrogant professors I've ever had during my college career. He ranted for about 20 minutes one class how he is from a higher "social class" and that teaching at EMU is a "step down" for him. Also, he assumed that the students in my class must not be the "brightest" because we go to a school like EMU. Not a fan.

For those that do not feel like reading and writing extensively, I would suggest finding another instructor. Three books are to be read and discussed throughout the semester as well as an autobiography (5 pages) and a (15 page) research paper. It is CHALLENGING but if work hard and don't write like a middle school student you will be fine.

This professor is extremely rude. He gives off the impression that he is better than you. He is not very good about giving thorough instructions on the papers he assigns. Good luck communicating through emails with him, he is very arrogant. He does not care what you have to say. It is all about him and not the students. Try to avoid him if you can.

This man is a great professor. I loved his classes and I pretty much have had every course he teaches. He does encourage dialogue but that is what college is about. If you are not a liberal you will not like him because he is very open minded and aware that certain people have more priviledges and opportunities.

Have him for a Grad class; he's the best. He hates undergrads which is why he's nicer to his Grad students. HIGHLY intelligent, fun, informative and obviously loves teaching. HIGHLY recommend Barak for Graduate students. Undergrads, you're going to have to deal with him...sorry.

It is so hard to pay attention in this class. He bases class on discussion and if you don't talk, he gets angry. The books you used are the one written by him. He is extremely smart but will argue with you until your wit's end. Would not recommend taking CRM 200 with Barak.

Being an all A student, I was not prepared for 4/10 and 3/7 type of grades for papers I received back from this professor. He lives in his own world and his method of teaching is as incomprehensible as his textbook. I did not want to ruin my gradepoint or bust my butt to get a C- so I withdrew and will go with a RECOMMENDED teacher next semester.

Inextricably married to his own theories, his own voice, and his own books. Cruel and relentless, bordering on abusive, when tearing down a student (education first?). Arguments are convoluted, longwinded, and tiresome. Avoid anything with Barak like the plague.

His GA should not be teaching. EMU is "education first." Our profs teach. We do not have TAs. The crim profs are overly politicized. Barak at least explores aspects, changes texts, takes serious criticisms seriously. Best advice: Do your homework.

His class was not that bad(when his student assistant was teaching). Barak is a horrible educator with very little care for his students. If I could go back I would take my name right off the class roster, and warn as many people as possible to do the same.

I've had Dr.Barak for 4 classes now. While it is true that he loves to go on his word alone, he will listen to others. Word of caution ... BACK UP WHAT YOU SAY IN CLASS. He is not afraid to tare down your arguments inch by inch if they make no sense. He WILL HELP you out if you ask. Another note, stop him the second you want clarification.

Very arrogant but not disrespectful. Funny and very smart. Likes to debate as well. Class is focused on relating the readings to current topics. Go in this class perpared to have something to say. He will call on people if you dont join the discussion. Assginments are easy but require intellectual thinking. Start the final paper early cause yo
