I was in the Honors section. He explains the concepts in class and gives relatable anecdotes for examples, however, his tests are hard. The curve is generous, but just knowing the concepts won't really help for the more philosophical questions. Tests are short answer heavy. Would recommend office hours. There are two midterms, a final, and project.

I enjoyed his course although it is somewhat boring and repetitive. If you want to do well, make sure to go to class and take notes or review them on lecture capture. He is unorganized but not difficult. TAs' section is a must if you want good grades. I'm not really sure if he is sane, though.

Took ECN1A Honor with Clark. Good professor, taught material in straightforward manner. Tests were similar to practice tests, yet sometimes were more conceptual and not a great representation of knowledge learned. Two midterms, somewhat weekly homeworks not for credit, a final and for honors one group project. Good class.

Clark class was one of my favorite econ class so far. The subject is super interesting, and because he is actually teaching his own book, there no other person that knows more about the subject. The exams asked some specifics questions, but they came just from lecture (you dont really need to read the book), so is not hard at all.

Comment:
Clark was knowledgeable in social mobility. However, much of the class was the same thing over and over. Exams would ask specific questions from his book and were hard to prepare for. He grades off of class rank but also has an odd grading scale. The final could potentially be worth 90% of your final grade. Approx. 2/3 of the class didn't attend.

Thought it would be an easy GE because it looked more interesting than the other Honors options. I feel that Prof. Clark made it much more difficult than it had to be. Had pwrpts but no text, would assign homework over email and basically used Sunday as another class day. I never went to reviews on Sun and ended up doing better than some who did.

It was really nice that he made his PowerPoints available beforehand to print and bring to class. I don't like to read the text so I could not afford skipping class. Try the homework before you go to section so you can ask for help from the TA. This is one of the few classes I've taken in which the TAs actually attend the lectures half the time.

I love Professor Clark history class, he was really interesting and fun. I will take this class every quarter, just one of the most entertaining classes I have ever had. Professor Clark is a rock star of economic history and is a pleasure to have classes with him.

Clark runs a great class. His lectures are fascinating, linking abstract economic concepts to real life events. Practice exams are in truth, very similar to the real ones. Would highly recommend.

Attendance was optional. Lectures were uploaded to SmartSite; however, they were unclear and confusing. Unfortunately, actually attending lecture didn't help much either. Seemed genuinely knowledgeable but wasn't effective in explaining concepts. Practice tests and homework sometimes didn't match actual tests. Never knew what to expect.

Clark is really a bad teache, greatly irresponsible to students! Bad examples all classes must be confusing. Text and homework are both irrelevant to his lecture. Just DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES!

It was a difficult class, but if you try it's not that awful. Ended up with a B in the class. His practice tests are NOTHING like the real tests. The concepts are there, but the way it's worded is completely different, the majority of the test material is from the lecture examples he gives.

His accents and talking styles really confuse me. He is too good in this field to teach you. He seemed to talk things that are outside of this class and his review sessions are waste of time . I don't think I learn anything at all. I expect nothing from him, if you have any chance. Do not take him.

While I've heard that Clark is better in his upper division classes, his micro economics class was terribly difficult and confusing. As a non econ major I spent most of the class confused and the mid terms and homework covered lots of topics that he never even went over. AVOID

Clark is awful. He is too involved in his upper division work so he seems to put the absolute minimal effort for 1A students. He makes up his own terms that can't be found in the textbook or online. He is socially inconsiderate and and may frustrate you. Expect him to sacrifice nothing for his students. Apparently he's good in small classes.

Lectures are boring and he tends to go off-topic a lot. Spends a long, long time on each topic. Notes are scribbled on the chalkboard and very unorganized. Often very difficult to know which information is important and which isn't. That said, still a low-effort class. Tests aren't all that difficult if you go to class and pay attention.
