Comment:
Dr. Schufreider is an incredibly brilliant man, and he knows it. During his lectures, he tends to stay on one topic for far too long, making the material more difficult than it should be. There's a ton of readings-too many in my opinion. Tests are difficult because there are many topics that he barely discusses that show up on the exams.

Phil/Film. Only grades in class are: quizzes/attendance/participation (1/3), midterm (1/3), and final (1/3). Pop quizzes occur to check that topics were understood and that reading was completed. Class must be attended to view films and know what to watch out for in films. Midterm/final timed for 1hr. only, need to write quickly but efficiently.

The books are discussed in depth in class; If you don't read, you DEFINITELY need to attend class - even if you do read, it's extremely helpful. Pop quizzes, allows drop of lowest. Only grades: midterm, final, essay, and quizzes/attendance. Midterm/final only 1hr long, LOTS OF WRITING, quickly. Wonderful professor, favorite at LSU, 10/10.

Class really make you think. However, we would get stuck on one topic FOREVERRR! Going into the midterm did not know what to expect and is really vague but looking for a specific answer if you get what I'm saying. Seemed like a really great guy whom you would love to have a cup of coffee with. Just didn't like his method of teaching and lecturing.

The best professor I've ever taken at LSU. Incredibly articulate and intelligent with a passion for the course material. Truly a great professor. Courses can be somewhat difficult if you're not into philosophy so I would not recommend taking his classes if you don't have a passion or interest for it. But if you do, his class will change your life.

If you get it, he will be the most meaningful teacher you ever have. Philosophy is divided into two camps; Anglo-American Analytic and ContinentalPhenomenologyDeconstruction. He is a teacher of Continental Philosophy and method which have to do with concrete experiences rather than the conciseness permitted by posterior logic or mathematics.

Aside from his lectures, which are the best I've ever heard and expect to hear in a State institution, Schufreider is also the only professor I felt comfortable with, in regards to thee role of interpreting the material; there was never a dogmatic leftism creeping in the background that wished to subordinate MH to American cultural flavoring. A+

Do not listen to the idiotic bad rep in here. Schufreider is a ray of light in the academia i.e. institutionalized Cultural-Marxism. The man's aged mind exemplifies the clarity of an eagle's eye. Knows his material like the back of his hand. Loves Nietzsche and Kierkegaard. The best lecturer I've ever had and ever expect to. Highly recommended.

Goes on rants, which are very interesting if you know the material fairly well. I don't know about other semesters, but his TA this go is the easiest grader I've run across.

He's a Nietzsche freak. We spent over a 1/3 of the semester on him and we were supposed to cover 4 philosophers. His midterm was a nightmare none of the questions came from stuff from lecture. I really liked Existentialism before this class, now I hate it and made me not take phil 3003. He's the only phil prof at LSU that I'll never take again.

I took two excellent (and challenging!) phil. courses with Prof Schufreider as an undergrad, and I'd take them again in a heartbeat. He was always very helpful--wrote one of my letters of rec. for grad school, in fact--and he invested in students who took interest in the material. One of the best profs at LSU, hands down.

The quintessential philosopher. He is, till this day, the most articulate man I have ever encountered. He probably holds the most distinguished position in the philosophy department, and consequently seems to only lecture on the more difficult material that the department offers. He's hard, but inspiring, oh and he has this 4 fooot white beard whic

Regularly teaches courses on former Nazis. Very intelligent, but extremely arrogant. Will often go off on long, uninterrupted rants of ten minutes or more. DOESN'T REALLY CARE AT ALL ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. Will fail you based on attendance even though this is against university policy. Basically, his classes are like being in a dictatorial forum.

Schufreider rocks. If you can get over his opinions and contrary attitude, he's a great prof and wants you to care about the material. Just do your work, engage this funky stuff, and roll with it!
