He is a very good Band director but does show favortism toward KKY and TBS. He gave a speech inperticular one time about Hazing and said you had to go to him first and not to headquarters about getting hazed becase if he found out you called nationals he would remove you from the band. Thats a little hazing it self isnt it. Good teacher though.

had cooper as an undergrad when he 1st came to tech and have observed through the years. definelty knows what he's doing and you can learn if you're open minded. he can come across political, shallow or whatever. i'm just saying. great teacher but doesn't walk on water :) i'm glad i had the opportunity to study with him.

Comment:

Overall a great professor for a college. Many people associate reserved and "cold" teachers as bad teachers, but we are in college, we do not need to be "friends" with our teachers. Also, from what I have seen, being neither a KKY or TBS that he shows "favoritism" to those who want to help his band and music in general grow. Again, great teacher.

I had cooper for my undergraduates. I disliked him then,but it wasn't until completing both my doctorates & masters in music performance,how completely worthless as a teacher and musician he is. His facilitations are purely political and he devalues the respect and admiration that should be given to all teachers.Would have been a better politician.

As a conductor--he is typically pretty easy to follow....he studies his scores...and pretty much does what is expected of him. But...he will make you feel like complete garbage if you mess up anything, especially if you're principal. Sometimes I think he forgets that this is a college band---for education----IT'S not a professional job yet!

Cooper has some serious issues, and hopefully they will bring in some other band directors soon. He frequently cancels rehearsals and doesn't show up for rehearsals to golf, has made rude comments about people in rehearsal, and has shown favoritism towards certain individuals and fraternity/sorority members. Good at teaching; bad band director.

Mr. Cooper is, without a doubt, one of the most colorful people I have ever known. From his leisurely chats to his fiery speeches, from his inspiring pep talks to his cold insults--I have been through it all, and have become much better because of it. He is very passionate about the quality of his bands, and their performances reflect this.

Not too sure about all the comments about favoritism, I was never in KKP, and definitely never noticed favoritism. Great band director and great teacher. Mr. Cooper is very good at what he does. I always thought he was very interested in his students, pushing them to excel.

Finds himself playing favoritism with those who are involved in the fraternal organization that he sponsors. Mr. Coopers is a good teacher, but he is very cold to most students and finds himself letting students run too many facets of the band.
