Hal Foster is the most important living art critic, on par with Walter Benjamin. His journalistic style is more readable and less caught up with internal academic debates than his books. Even so, a delight in all respects, more so because he practices self-criticism, which inculcates all his writes with a degree of honesty uncommon to his peers.
