250 pages of material covered in three weeks of the winter semester (start reading early if you can.) Fair when comes to grading. Instructions are to the point. Not much interaction (as expected in an online course.) Glad I took the course as I learned A LOT! Group discussions were entertaining. Obtained good grade while working full time.

Really a nice professor I have ever meet in my life. Very helpful, respectful, kind, fun, artistic. 200 percent recommending to anyone see his name and if classes are still open. You won't regret.

A very passionate teacher that is involved in Graphic Design. I loved the class however many people would fall behind and the people who get work done on time would have nothing to do until the others finished. I would totally recommend this class.

He does talk of his own work a lot and I respect what he does. The only thing I don't like is that he expects too much out of me. He's super helpful art wise and if you're going into an art major, he really helps out with marketing your art. He has an odd personality, but that's what you get from being an artist. I find him amusing.

I love Professor Groat! I'm not an art major and took computer graphics for a gen ed. He was super helpful and taught me all about photoshop! He is really nice guy and all of the students like him. I would definitely take another class with him

Groat is a great professor to have for painting. He gives you a lot of freedom and encourages you to make good decisions. He will also help you with the technical details of your work if you need him to. He does field trips and is a great proff overall! If you're not super artistic don't worry about it - Groat is one of the best!

He was a very encouraging and inspiring professor.After I too his painting class I was so inspired to keep learning more about painting.Because of him,I knw more and have more confidence as an artist that I didn't really have before.His criticism was very helpful and it made me improve my painting skll significantly!I would totally take him again!

He was also my adviser and I do NOT recommend you keep him if he is yours now. Literally almost did not graduate after I walked in graduation because of his lack of knowledge and careless personality. He was supposed to HELP me figure out what classes I needed to take and almost made me have to come back for 1 sem. more. So glad I fixed it myself.

I took painting I during the painting II time slot because of a time issue. I had never oil painted prior to this class. I struggled through out the semester but Groat listened and was very helpful. He noted that with each painting I improved so overall I got a pretty good grade because I tried hard, attended every class and listened.

Great professor, I improved my art skills tremendously from taking intro to color theory and 2-d with Groat. I also had a lot of good conversations with him inside and outside of the class room. Very easy to get along with and the work isn't too hard but still requires effort.

He knows his material, but goes off on tangents about himself and how amazing he believes all his artwork is. It was hard to concentrate on creating artwork while he gushes over his own pieces and talent. He is a nice person, but frustrating to have as a teacher.

I had him 3 semesters ago for beginning drawing; thought he was sooo terrifically and overwhelmingly BORING. Not a hard grader, can be very helpful and has some good techniques but that's it. Doesn't inspire, doesn't dazzle, doesn't motivate: Does Not thrill your senses as an art teacher should.
