I've taken all of Professor Obeori's courses and I come out a different person. His lectures are crystal clear and he makes you really think about the issues that he is covering and how that affects modern society. He's one of the reasons why I'm deciding to become a university professor as my career choice. A true UBC gem.

Easily one of the best professors at UBC. I took ASIA 488 as a second choice because it was applicable to my major, but am incredibly happy I did. Lectures are organized and legitimately inspiring, and he was always willing to engage in meaningful Q&A outside class hours. Grading structure is quite lenient. Would recommend him to anyone.

I took ASIA 488 with Dr. Oberoi and I left his class thinking that I would be fulfilled if I could attain even 10% of the knowledge this professor has. He is extremely knowledgeable about South Asia and I would recommend taking this course with him for anyone interested in learning about the region. His lectures are extremely thought provoking.

I am currently taking ASIA488 with him, and it is my favourite course. He is very humble and very well-read. He knows his subject very well. I like this course very much. In every lecture, I learn something new. The course is easy, but readings are very helpful. I will definitely take a course with him again. He is also my professor crush. :)

I would recommend professor Oberoi to anyone interested in South Asian history or history in general. He is extremely knowledgable and allows students to explore their academic potentials. He's got a great reputation amongst his former students. Everyone I know who has taken a course with his speaks about how he was a great professor. Very nice too

I had him for Asia 339, amazing prof! he is very knowledgeable of the South Asia background, I enjoyed going to his lectures. his tests aren't hard either, you just need to read the novels (or at least go to spark notes and read those)... not a hard marker, he gives 9/10 for most essay questions as long as you tried.

Professor Oberoi is by far one of the best Proffs I've encountered in my university career. He is very knowledgable is his subject material and is very respectful to students opinions. I personally found him to be extremely professional and funny at the same time. He got his students to think outside the box but was also very clear. great proff !

Professor Oberoi is hands down one of my favorite professors at UBC. His course on the diaspora really helped opened my eyes on Indian culture and the certain behaviors I encounter with classmates. He is also an easy grader. I was surprised on my first assignment that I received a 85. Can't wait for his summer course!!

Professor Oberoi is a gem. He is extremely understanding and recognizes the fact that we are all students and can have some bumps along the way. Although his lectures can be a little dry, he is definitely very caring. Definitely recommend going to class and taking notes because that is where the exam content will come from!

Very pleasant professor, interesting lectures, and the textbook readings were complementary, but not exactly what he'd talk about in class, so everything was fairly new and interesting. A bit unclear in expectations, but lenient in marking and very approachable. You can tell he really appreciates effort.

Incredibly engaging and traditional professor. This man is what I expected from professors when I started university, but discovered are so rare. If you dont know how to take notes without powerpoint or overheads, youre in over your head. Process the information as it comes to you and you'll come out a new kind of student.

He is hands down- one of the best profs at ubc. I never heard one student oomplain about him in our class. We had one term paper, a presentation, and a take home exam. Readings are key to being successful because we had weekly seminars, but schoolwork aside-Oberoi is amazing.

I have a feeling he likes my writing. Mid-terms were a bit messed up - had some repeate questions, but I scored 24.5/25 for it after studing real hard, and I also had a final grade of 91% on his course when the class average was only 67%. Just take good notes in class, attend regularly, and you'll get a good mark.
