Harlan Spence is quite possibly the greatest professor, ever. I'm not into science and such, but his Astronomy class kicked ass. He was very understanding and good at explaining his class. TA's very good as well. Do not take astronomy if not with Prof. Spence.

Comment:

Great Prof, very nice and knows what he is talking about. Don't really need to go to lectures because he posts the powerpoints online, but sometimes lectures are interesting so you might as well go. Exams are really hard but they are curved at the end of the semester.

Prof Spence is a very nice professor. TF Andrew Jordan was great, helpful and interesting. Labs are interesting and not too difficult. Exams are impossible but the end grade is curved since you cant have half the class failing. Lectures are boring and have nothing to do with exams. Prof. is awkward. Overall, good class. lots of physics so beware.

Great presentations every lecture - powerpoint was a plus, and he had a themed song playing as you walked into every lecture. Was very accomodating when I had to miss class. Overall, I'd agree with the last rating: Spence is the MAN!

Harlan is the man!!! He has some real interesting stories to tell. Study real hard for his tests, they are ridiculous. The material was presented in an interesting manner, and his songs at the beginning of each class were rad. Homeworks were a waste of time, repetitive, and took forever.

Lecture doesn't seem to have a whole lot to do with the book and he doesn't use a whole lot of examples to give meaning to the equations. Physics department screwed us over though so he is going out of his way to make sure we understand everything.

Prof Spence is really passionate about what he teaching, but he has a hard time engaging the students. Read the book and you'll be fine, but I thought Astronomy was going to be a lot more interesting.

Really energetic in his lectures. You can tell he's passionate about the subject and tries to engage is students in the same way. Tests were really hard though. Never expected quite a challenge after the simple letures. Labs were good. TA was really good.

Prof. Spence is a really cool guy who cares about his students and his class. Makes a huge effort to make sure everyone knows what's going on. Tests are hard--he expects a lot which was surprising since he never gave off that vibe in lecture.
