Signed up for composition class and got this prof and the topic "faith and doubt," which I thought would be boring b ut was pretty chill, actually. Covered lots of interesting topics and even though I'm not religious, it kept me interested. Prof. Bush is funny and also not at all boring, but he did miss some classes from traveling some.

The class was a core filler, so I took it based off a friend's comments. It was really interesting discussion in class and most of the books were good, except one. Read the books for easy points on quizzes. Prof. Bush loves to connect readings to movies and music and everything else, and he's funny alot too, so i'd recommend this teacher.

Dr. Bush always has lively conversations with his class. I was in his Nation Lit and Identity course, it was always talkative,. He uses the Socratic method when it comes to questions students. Nice guy, tough grader, but always willing to help you if you ask. You HAVE to READ the books. Quizzes through out the books he assigns. Very animated class.

Great professors! Lectures are discussion based and students love giving their opinions in this course. Bush includes pop culture and great music in his course content (Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel). One of the professors that genuinely thinks students should gain more from a class than just the material on the syllabus.

This is a good class with cool assignments --it's like a lit class but the writing is creative and personal essays. The reading discussions are enjoyable and soemtimes very enlightening, I'm very glad I took this professor!

Comment:
Although I luckily came out with a good grade, this class was a joke. The professor was extremely disorganized and clearly had no idea how he expected the course to go-- there was 3 different syllabi and readings changed at his whim. He is grossly opinionated and narrow-minded. STAY AWAY.

As a non-English major, I thought I was going to hate the class. Turned out loving the class and Professor Bush. Hands down the best teacher I've had at SLU. Somewhat challenging material and grading, but you learn so much. Highly recommend!

He's intimidating but it makes you think. He uses Youtube and music and relates the class material to the real world today. Sometimes arrogant or sarcastical but he is pretty interesting and funny too.

Somewhat challenging grader and definitely has his own opinions, but I've enjoyed the challenge. Talks about sports a lot too which can be entertaining. A good amount of reading.

A very unique teacher, because he mixes his teaching with his function as a role model students. Instead of thinking about teaching as just a job, he actually cares about the lives of his students. He throws some of the best house parties ever. When he speaks, he speaks with passion and when he teaches he teaches professionally.

I had zero expectations, but this is a good class. I'm a science major, but this is already the best core class I've had at SLU; only 4 weeks in but I love going to class and the readings are great. Sort of tough and sometimes sarcastic, but wake up and unplug from the matrix!

60s lit. -- this one was recommended by a friend; very cool readings and lots of stuff on music. He organized a great all-day teach-in and had us over for a party. Not as tough as I had been led to beleive; but way cool (Jake!) peace baby!!! (loved the lectures on Dylan and the Beatles and Motown!) You rock, Dr. B.!

Thought provoking, interesting, but difficult teacher. A good number of students dropped after the first day; he is intimidating. Expects a lot on papers, I wouldn't recommend if you are a bad writer and you want a good grade. However, if you want to learn something, I'd highly recommend Uncle Hal! He definitely widened my view of the world!

I bet some of the nice comments were typed personally by him Complained about lateness but was never on time Course had no direction He acts like a hippy but is cynical and mean spirited Talks politics all the time but tries not to offend anyone so gives mainstream opinions and always talks about reagan/obama Not at all provocative but thinks he is
