RUN! He is the worst teacher. No reading guides. Basically have to go to class for CPS questions. Then if he decides to give you a study guide you need to look in the book for the answers. He is just awful! Mean and very unhelpful.

dont even buy the text book, just do notes from class and you should do fine. CPS costs 30 bucks or so and another 15 to register it.. seems confused at times and goes off on weird stories rather than teaching. The guy who does the labs is clear and fairly easy.

UGH! He is the worst professor to have for a lab section EVER! He's not so bad during lecture but he can't see or hear well which makes lab assistance non existent. He is very boring, however, and TRIES to be funny (he is usually unsuccessful). He will also take more time showing you his photographs than lecturing about physics. CPS system sucks.

He is more obsessed with keeping the door closed and seating arrangements than actually teaching the class. I'm not very good at Physics, and he is not the professor to take if you think you'll have trouble with the subject. He tells a lot of stories about his life, but really doesn't teach. I wish I didn't take him. Sweet guy, but I didn't learn.

Don't listen to the other comments! Bates wasn't bad at all. Never used the textbook and tests are all CPS questions. Labs are vague but easy if you just ask for help. Easy class overall, just show up and copy the powerpoints!

Has a good heart but really can't teach. he's kind of creepy and really boring and not very clear especially for labs. was interested in the class but not with him teaching. had to by a cps to participate in class costs about 35 bucks.

I thought people on here were just complaining....listen to them, he is awful, can't hear, see, and never answers questions and is rude. absolutely the worst professor i have ever had. he refuses to give your tests back, is very unwilling to help, and very inflexible if you have a problem. also, only about 20 percent of what is on his study guides are what youre tested on, and the rest is just random. do not take a class with this professor!

I am a Graduate student and had this man as an undergrad. I see he still is terrible! Never was worth much, I hated this class. Once I had a problem and he ignored me. Then kicked me out of class. I was unlucky enough to have this man for lab as well as lecture and he absolutely failed to explain anything that we "learned" in lab. After each lesson, I found myself confused by not only the material, but also his meaningless anecdotes.

C'mon, Harry is a nice guy. Give him some points. Labs were a big time joke. Have to admit though that the textbook was about 10 times more interesting than him. But he tells fascinating stories about his adventures to the moon and preference for steaks. I'd take this class again as a GenEd.

He is adorable and so passionate about Physics, but his lectures are slightly boring, labs are kind of hard, but they are usually fun. It's definitely not a hard class AT ALL but he does know if you're there because he uses a PRS system, but over all it isn't bad, and he is sooooo adorable and cruises around in a powerized chair.
