Dr. Schuetze is a great prof, if you don't learn from being in lecture he doesn't make you go and that's great. The textbook is awesome, and the slides that he posts from his lectures are a good complement to the book. He is also a lenient marker, but the class average was in the low 60's. Expect material similar to 203.

Loved Herb's lectures, great speaker and got concepts across well. Only graded on 2xmidterm and final. Hardest tests I have ever written in my life. Not a clue what I was looking at or what to do. Took this course for Econ elective..... Do not take! Super smart in his field but cannot write a test, lowest mark I've ever received in University!

Schuetze is a really good prof who doesn't make you go through the nonsense that most others do. All you have to do is tests, you don't have to go to class. This class is basically Econ203, and the average for the midterms was well under 50%, so I don't think you should take this class without at least an A- in 203. Read the textbook and the notes!

Dr. S is an expert in labour Economist and he is able to answer almost every questions you raise in class and during his office hours. However, his problem sets are full of typos and his answers are not really clear. I really suggest students to take this course after taking Econ 325 and Econ 312, otherwise you are gonna have a hard time.

Class average on the first midterm: 36% before scaling and regrade. Overall class average was 59%. Herb did a terrible job teaching the fundamental concepts on the course. He taught the course as though everyone had taken calculus and upper level econ courses before (although these were not required pre-reqs). Worst class I have ever taken. EVER.

Waited 26 days after the final exam before receiving grade, deadlines are meaningless to this guy, no apology made. Class average was 59% because of poorly designed tests and problem sets whose answer keys often didn't answer the questions being asked. Lectures were interesting but hardly relevant to exams. I will avoid him in the future.

ECON 370 is a challenging but rewarding elective. It is probably one of the most useful classes in terms of learning how to apply economic principles to actual policy decision. The material is interesting, and the tests make you think about the material, not just memorize it. Herb is a great teacher, but will make you work for your grade.

First midterm, first grading, Class Average, 32%! Lowest I have ever experienced or heard! After regrading, class average 42%. Although he was kind enough to give the class a 8% boost and make it a 50% class average. still,NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS

Awesome prof, dedicated to actually teaching students. Is legitimately interested in opinions and feedback, real down to earth guy. I know I enjoyed this class because I would think about/apply the material I learned outside of class-take it!

Nice guy and a solid lecturer, but his exams are crazy. Average of first midterm was 48%, and second barely over 50. Some scaling (5% boost), but the fact is, 50 minutes is not enough for the level of detail he wants. TA is brutal when it comes to part marks. Key is to study problem sets and past exams. 370 is a demanding elective.

Many people complained that the course was too hard; I thought it was tough but I am surprised more courses aren't this way to be honest. He's a really nice guy and goes far out of his way to help students. With that said, don't expect an easy grade without putting in a lot of effort

Very helpful, one of the nicest guys you'll meet in the econ dept. Tough exams, but he scales them appropriately. A prof who actually wants you to learn material instead of memorizing how to do his exams. Tough for an elective, but very rewarding class overall. This is the first class that has actually made me think in terms of economic policy.

Great thing is he posts lecture notes online AFTER he is done the CHAPTER. He is no help during office hours. His 1st midterm was brutal, but he made up for it with a fairly easy 2nd midterm. MC and written q's on his midterms. 15% of his practice questions are on the midterm(not a lot). TA's can't speak English well making the course difficult.

Schuetze was a great prof who explained everything well and posted all the ppt notes on his website. The first midterm was extremely hard, but he gave everyone a 10% bump (so that the average was over 50%). Helpful at answering questions. Study hard and review the practice exam that he'll post.

Keeps things clear and to the point - explains the material very well. Doesn't get mad when "challenged" or questioned by students and answers questions clearly. Though I did fine, the average of the 1st midterm was quite low, so he scaled everyone up 10%. Number one tip for this course: USE THE STUDY GUIDE.
