Well prepared for class. Was passionate about the subject, making it easy to learn! If you have any problems, she will take time out of her schedule to meet with you. Very helpful. Hard marker, but makes the subject so interesting that it's worth the extra work. I highly recommend this professor! I changed my minor to English because of her!

Shes a horrible teacher. Does not care about her students at all. Expect a million assignments and vocab tests on british words you've never hear of. If you're only taking this class because you need it, avoid it. I was getting a C dropped it, took the same class next sem and ended up with an A-

If you are just taking english to satisfy the university requirements DO NOT take it with this prof. I dropped the class half way through because I was getting a C, and the next term I took the same class with a different prof and got an A!! Choose your english prof wisely...stay away!

Comment:

I took Hilary's class about 4 years ago, and looking back, I appreciate her. She prepared me extremely well for upper level English courses, as well as grad school, by challenging me to do better. If you're an English major, and truly want to improve, take her class. She's tough, but I guarantee you'll find yourself reminiscing about her later!

She definitely wasn't an easy prof, but if you show up to class, keep up with the notes, and do all of the assignments you'll do fine! She gives great lectures, chooses interesting books, and because she gives quizzes, a midterm, and a final, you can still do good if your writing skills aren't perfect. My writing definitely did improve though.

This is the WORST teacher ever. She is an old bag who knows her stuff and expects you to didicate your life to english. she gives so many tests, essays and assignments that you other classes will suffer majorly. If you are just taking this course to make requirements find a diff prof!

I know everyone says there teachers are too hard. However, Knights class is impossible. She has said that a 90 in her class is like a 70 in any other english class. she has dictionary/spelling tests often with words no ones ever heard of. She also takes off major marks for grammar errors. If this course is not your entire life you will not well.

WORST CLASS AND WORST PROFESSOR IN THE UNIVERSITY! She makes students feel like idiots (unless you are her favourite) and is an EXTREMELY hard marker. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS - otherwise your GPA and your self esteem will plummet.

Awesome as a person - she's "bouncy" and funny, and usually quite nice. She turned otherwise boring lectures into something relatively interesting. But she's a very tough marker. No slacking off in her class.

After reading the comments on this page I was terrified to take Knight's class. However, she is a great prof. She cares only if YOU care. She offers to take students out for coffee to talk about whatever difficulty they are having! Of course those looking for an easy A are mad, she expects you to work for your A and truly learn English. Great Prof!

Extremely harsh marker. Her class was quite informative but expectations were unreasonable. Often had quick quizzes at the start of class that were nearly impossible unless you spend 2 hours carefully going through a quick reading assignment before every class looking up definitions for words...

I liked her. When she lectures, she sometimes throws in a bunch of completely un-related things...which are usually quite funny! Clearly enjoys the material she teaches, as she is always laughing while lecturing. VERY strict on attendance, keeping up on the reading, and participation in class. If you take a class with her, be prepared to work hard!

a nice lady, however takes pleasure in your pain. Extremely hard marker and narrow minded especially towards feminism and Jungian psychology. I highly recommend you take English 145, because its got great course material, but stay away from this woman!
