Comment:
Kim is incredibly knowledgeable about the topic and you can learn a lot from him if you put in effort. Unfortunately, not much effort is required to do well in his class though. He provides outlines for nearly every lecture. Exams are all short/essay response. Lectures can be dry because he speaks slower - his English is fine though.

This class is very easy and isn't time consuming whats so ever. Only downside, if you have a question, don't bother asking he won't know what you're talking about. Also if you want an A, only write what he says verbatim on tests. If you paraphrase or deviate you get docked. Oh and his english is very understandable. People just don't listen.

Entertaining to say the least. My study partner and I had a ball repeating his mistakes. He is not very helpful, actually refuses to help you, but you can tell he wants you to know the topic. Tests are almost verbatim what he teaches and from his lecture notes. GO TO CLASS and you'll get at least a B.

Dr. Kim is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject matter, and I've learned a great deal in his Government of Japan and Government of China courses. Sometimes he tells hilarious stories complete with unintentionally funny, almost interpretive dance, movements. His lectures are word for word in the outlines, study those and collect your A.

Took his Gov't of Japan course. Classes were fairly boring, no real point to go other than get the outlines. I did crosswords in class but just studied the outlines and checklist and got an A. Should be fine as long as you put forth effort studying for the tests

As others have stated, he is very difficult to understand at times; however, if you continue going to class you get used to it. Honestly, pretty easy class taught by a very knowledgeable professor. Kept class interesting, enjoyed thoroughly. Don't let the accent discourage you from attending. Tests are easy if you grab the handouts.

Accent makes it impossible to understand. Often takes 2-5 minutes to think of the correct english word. Wont answer questions. Attempts to embarrass students who leave early or arrive late. Scribbles on the board.Handouts r helpful, test are right from handouts.

Dr. Kim is impossible to understand and his class is hard to pay attention to. Im interested in Poli Sci and couldnt stand going to this class...his tests suck...only good thing is you dont need to buy the book...he hands out lecture outlines that are word for word for every class

I took the Japanese gov course from him. He is ok, but hard to understand and doesn't take questions really. As others have said he hands out worksheets with detailed notes so the only reason to come is the extra credit for perfect attendance. If you put in any effort its and easy A or B, but you won't learn a ton.

This class is moderately easy, but would be so much easier with a good prof. If you want someone who can teach, don't take him. He doesnt understand very well and will mess up your attendance. He doesn't care about his students!!

Kim's class is boring. He is repetative, he doesn't speak great English, his lectures are not engaging and he does not encourage questions from the class. On the plus side, he gives extra credit for perfect attendance and the class is easy. He uses handouts so don't even bother getting the book. Everything that you need to know is in the handouts.

Ok, Professor Kim is an amazing teacher. Do not let these other posts fool you. He is extremely versed in Asian Politics and anyone even considering the field should take all of his courses. His accent isn't horrible to understand and if you attend class, take good notes, and make an effort to learn, you will make a good grade.

He lectures AT you not to you and there is absolutely no open discussion. If you ask a question, are late to class, leave early, or possess an opinion he belittles and insults you. The WORST professor I have ever taken in my life and although I got a good grade in the class I learned very little. He caused me to consider changing my major.

if you need to fulfill writing course, you can take this class because he doen't give you any additional assignments. But make sure you do well on your paper. His test questions are all from his study guide, but you need to memorize a lot. It you are not interested in political science, it would be difficult for you to get a good grade.

Do not buy text; he provides "outlines" which are his lectures verbatim - making it very easy to study for exams. I just memorized outlines the night before tests and did okay. VERY unapproachable! Belittles and humiliates you if tardy or asks ANY question. 1)go to class, 2) get outlines 3) memorize night b4 test .. i did this got a b+

Don't buy book. Use his handouts instead. Exams are all short answers and essay questions. Be extreme careful of the term paper!!! He doesn't explain anything about the term paper but requires; thesis statement, footnotes, works cited page, and a modern topic. You MUST include all these 4 elements on your paper. Just believe me!!

Sometimes accent makes him difficult to understand, but language barrier is even more evident if you try to ask questions. Does give handouts at every lecture so notes aren't that important. Not extremely difficult, but is an instant cure for insomnia. Find someone else.

Dr. Kim is a good professor, but he doesn't want to get to know you. He is big on attendance GO TO CLASS if you don't there will be grade cut if you don't. Test are a bit rough, but his class is probabally easy then taking from someone else in the department.
