Comment:
I have no complaints about Dr. Cota-Sanchez. Classes did drag on somedays but he was funny and engaging for the most part. If you struggle with understanding accents sit near the front and you will be fine. Midterm was very easy and I felt like I learned a lot in his lectures.

I have no quarrel with Hugo, but if you're taking 323 PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT PLANT FAMILIES BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PLANT COLLECTION!!!! I had no idea that literally everything was from Asteraceae and I had super low diversity in my collection and that's a big part of the mark! Work hard and it will pay off! Know your plant families!!!

Notes are fill in the blanks, so attendance is mandatory. Tests are straight from the notes and not difficult, textbook reading is not necessary. Good lecturer and quite funny, although was quite rude when I asked him a question after class. As long as you study it isn't hard to do well on his tests

Comment:
He's in love with plants and he tries to use current culture references, which just end up being really funny. Slides are fill in the blank, so you have to attend class. Make sure to study all the examples in the slides, as they will come up on the exam; which is hard.

Really great class!! It is not a complete cake walk but if you work hard you can easily achieve a 80+. Once again it is not EASY, there is a fair amount of time you should devote to studying and memorizing scientific names. But it is an extremely interesting class and Hugo is always ready to explain any concepts that are not clear to you!

A great professor as long as you make the effort to talk to him and take an interest. He will certainly help anyone if you go to see him and you will be better off for it. If you make an effort it is a fun and easy class.

I don't know why he was teaching a first year class because it seems he normally teaches higher level courses. Anyway this professor wasn't bad at all. His material was very straightforward and he is very active in his teaching. Asks a lot of questions and draws you into the lecture. Overall not bad.

You take TONS of notes in this class often my hands hurt after lectures. You have to memorize over 200 taxonomic words including family, genus, and species. He expects very detailed essays and is an extremely hard marker. The subject material is interesting but tests are hard and questions are often vague even though he wants a specific answer.
