So here's the thing, Ian Walker might be an amazing prof for Geography majors at the 300 lvl who are extremely interested in their subject, but 103 is a survey course of physical geography and Ian did nothing to make the material more fun or accessible for me. He cares about his students but I wouldn't recommend his class to non-geography majors.

Best Prof I've ever had at UVic hands down. His lectures are fantastics, and the slides are all you really need to study off of (all posted but not always complete). He's super approachable also. If you take the time to study the material it's hard not to do well. Labs are disorganized but manageable.

Walker is super easy on the eyes. Really fun guy and got the whole class involved. Made lectures fun and I was actually disappointed if I missed a class. Gives example of exam questions in class (take note) and gives example multiple choice and short answers before tests. STUDY ALL OF THEM! Most but not all will appear on tests. Overall, great guy.

GREAT PROFESSOR! Very passionate about his research and, in turn, his teaching of geography 103. In lecture he tells you "this would be a good midterm question" and that material usually ends up being tested. Gives sample midterm and exam questions with no answer keys - STUDY THES! He reuses most of the questions. Very fair midterm and exam.

I found this class difficult, but rewarding when finished. Ian expects a high level of work put into the labs, and they would take the full week to complete. Although the labs were difficult, they were interesting and often required you to visit nearby landmarks to complete. Tests weren't easy but he gives you hints on what will be on them.

We don't use textbook, but could read online for free. Ian's class is interesting and helpful. He only puts parts of the notes on Moodle to keep attendance. The test has optional questions and contains many review questions he posted online. I would take his course again. However, the lab is difficult.

Ian is an awesome prof. GO TO CLASS, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Super helpful prof. Take good detailed notes, do his practice questions (some are on the exams), study hard and go talk to him. Do the above and you will get an A. However, he only puts in effort if you do, so PARTICIPATE in class!! Overall, love this prof and would take any course with him.

He is super passionate about soil and streams etc, which is hilarious. he will make up on the spot a reasonable exam question and then discuss the answer which is really helpful to get to know what he asks. exam was pretty tough, but fair. has okay slides, definitely go to class, he makes the content really interesting. and he has a soul patch...

Ian is decent, he would be a muuuchh better prof if he didn't try so hard to be funny.. Agree with the arrogant comments, he just needs to calm down and realize the class is a prereq and not everyone is stoked to be there. Wasn't the worst prof in the world, but could use improvement

He definitely is passionate about the teaching material and boasts about himself and his oh-so-fabulous job a lot. I didn't enjoy his attitude and arrogance but found the course overall to be relatively easy. The textbook is useful, especially when you don't feel like listening to him talk in lectures.

I just don't like Ian Walker's style of teaching. He is very arrogant and makes you feel stupid if you don't answer a question properly. The concepts are pretty clear; I think I went to about 5 of the 10-15 classes he taught, and the concepts were easy enough to teach myself. The lab helps a lot and he puts all his slides online.

Ian is a nice guy and there for help if you need it, but tends to overload lectures. Labs are quite long and difficult - learn to use excel for this course! Overall a very interesting course, but demanding. Take it in an easy semester.

Good prof, really knows his stuff. Contrary to popular belief, I found Ian to be a nice guy and was helpful when I approached him for help. Don't take this class if you don't need it/are not intending to pursue this field. The labs are pretty hard, especially if you don't know how to use Excel. My lab grade suffered because of this. He was pretty good. He taught a split class with D. Canil. I liked him much better. His lecture notes were much more structured, and neater. He was a bit easier on the testing, too. He explained and gave hints as to what he would test us on, and sure enough he did. Would take is class again.

I believe Ian became a prof so that he could stand on a stage and hear himself talk. He obviously doesn't care about his students or he wouldn't make fun of them for asking questions and he would answer them well when they did. His obsession with sand dunes is annoying and can only be topped by his obsession with himself. Tip: study past exams.
