He is clearly not a Spanish teacher. He relies solely on the textbook softwear and manly of the students exceeded his level of fluency. To give him credit he truly cares, he just isn't very good at teaching the material. Buy the textbook and use that for your studying rather than in-class notes. Go to class for the practice, but don't expect much.

Comment:

Ivo was great. He always stopped to engage the class even if the questions were trivial. Assembly language is so dry, but this is a required course, so why complain? The tests were on what he covered in class, and he was thorough in reviewing. And this is Calgary, AB... who doesn't have an accent? He is retired as of Jan 2009. Thanks Ivo!

Wow, talking about this prof. His lectures are SO BORING. You show up, sit down, 15 minutes later you'll just be laying there sleeping. He has so much accent that you would only understand 20% of what he's teaching. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU to his class AT ALL. Get out of his lectures now!!! Run Away!

He's alright but I seriously dont think going to lectures is necessary. His class is soo boring, and maybe because of the class or his voice...but it was just boring. The textbook is pretty good though and his tests are easy and assignments are fairly easy as well. I still kinda screwed up in the class though but that was my fault haha.

While the assignments are really easy, he is just so unbelievably boring. I just sleep most of the time as he only reads from the slides available on his website and he spends the first 20 minutes each class reviewing previous class.

First, the good: Dr. Jirasek knows the material, and the tests and assignments are fairly easy. However, he is a terribly boring, monotonous lecturer. I wouldn't recomend him unconditionally, but you could certainly do a lot worse.

Alright for 457, you can get most of the information from the slides/text though. For 441 however the assignments are quite time consuming and what's learned in class doesn't help at all with them. Need a good TA to do well on the assignments.

he pretends to teach and we pretend to learn. this guy makes no sense. his assignments are stupid and do not help with learning and his exams are basically a fill in the blank exercise where if you make a small mistake you pay dearly. avoid him if you hope to learn anything.

Overall Ivo is a good prof. He gives clear and well organized lectures. However they can be quite dull, particularily in 457. His assignments tend to be VERY easy. Good for grades but bad for learning experience.
