Comment:

Extremely difficult. The marking on the tests is very rough and the assignments are worth very little although they are very easy. Would not recommend unless you want to lower your GDP. Many people I have spoken to have regretted this. Best to take something else.

Comment:

I just completed ECON 3030 online. While the course was a little dry, I found that the Course Manual was an excellent resource for the exam. Close study of the Manual pretty much guaranteed success on the exam. Also, Dr. Waples provided some comments on what to expect on the final. Not a course that I loved, but the exams were very fair.

She is the worst professor ever. She never communicated with us. Delayed replies to emails and only communicated before the test/exam. Her course manual is dull and disorganized. You can't even download/print them. Worst professor ever and stay away.

STAY AWAY!! Does not respond to emails, discussion threads, anything! Assigns weekly assignments that are extremely time consuming but worth not even 1% Does not explain any content on D2L, just posts and lets you do work Online content does not match up with physical textbook. AWFUL.

No guidance whatsoever, other professors I've had through distance were excellent. This professor would not even respond to emails. Awful, just not good enough. Makes a point to enforce that she is a doctor, and is to be referred to as Dr- Mind boggling . I was once told if someone needs to enforce their educatIon like that, there's something wrong

Course notes not concise at all, mistakes in a lot of the graphs making it very difficult to understand seeing as there is 50+ graphs in the course. Marks ridiculously. Feels the need to put "Dr Phd in economics" in beginning of course. Someone should look into this course by distance. Simply not fair to be spending money on.

The worst. A student will ask a question and she will respond "probably" and then continue. Sometimes she'll write examples down and forget to finish them. The lectures are boring and all she does is write down examples.

Do yourself a favour and avoid this woman. Despite having a lot of interest in the economics, she completely turned me away from ever taking another economics course. I put more energy into this course than any other in all my years at MUN and for nothing. Save yourself the stress. Truly.

Do not take any class from this prof. You might be able to do well but you'll learn nothing, she'll provide next to know help and the lectures are near impossible to follow and you may be treated to getting the same lecture three classes in a row.

Unfortunately, a lot of what has been said here is true - her lectures impossible to follow, she's extremely unapproachable, and she marks very arbitrarily. But she teaches right out of the textbook so if you have to take a class with her, study the book/reserves religiously and you should do well.

I felt that the tests were marked unfairly. I compared my answers to information that was in the book and it was very accurate. The only feedback that I got on my test paper was that I left out DR on the cover page where we were supposed to write our profs name! Just goes to show what her main concern was...clearly not the success of her students.

I've had the pleasure (not) of having Jane Waples for 6 courses. I'm not going to be mean intentionally, however, Dr. Waples is in the wrong profession. She can't teach at all, but I think she knows this and you can usually rely on the book and do ok. Exams and assignments are fair, but don't expect any help or clarity from her lectures!

She is the worst nightmare I have ever met. imcompetent, arrogant and mean. Nobody could follow her lectures. No ethics at all. Giving random marks without any comments.
