A lot of these comments aren't fair to Jacques, he's a really sweet guy who just has a sarcastic sense of humour but if there is ever a day where you look down or upset, he won't purposely hurt you further. He encourages speaking only French and finds way for us to expand vocabulary. All of the tests were really fair, just go to class- EASY A.

Enrolled in the class a week late, emailed him days before class asking what I should do or be prepared for since I'm joining late. No response. When i walked into the class he yelled at me in front of everyone about not introducing myself to the class and how thats the custom when you walk into a class. Really harsh and inconsiderate.

loved this class. got easy marks from dictees and just simple verbal participation. only thing I didn't like was that he didn't give outlines or guidelines for tests and assignments. Tells you exactly wats on the exam down to specific questions.

At the start, I thought Jacques was a super kind man (admittedly with a harsh attitude). FRE201 is a course in which you are placed according to the placement tests, so many skip 101 as a result. However, Jacques expects all to remember the content learned in the said course in order to continue this one. Not one for re-explaining!!!

The course content isnt really easy considering french is harder than english in general, professor lorioz definitely wasnt the worst but not the best also, its not an easy pass. You'll have to study a lot so if youre considering an easy course or elective that you'd enjoy, Dont take that class.

You have to get used to his savageness and way of talking. He can be funny and caring, but at first you might find him condescending and rude. The way he teaches is okay but the way he teaches grammar is not the best unless you give your 100% focus. Overall, he is a decent prof, but I assume most would not like him very much

I'm bilingual and thought that I could take this class as an easy credit. To my surprise, it ended up being extremely rewarding. The way he grades makes it so that even someone with my skill has a bit of a challenge. He's also great for those who aren't fantastic in French because he really wants you to succeed. Go to class or you won't pass though

Yeah he's fast-paced in his teaching and makes awkward jokes here and there, but overall he's a fun guy. I'm taking another class with him again solely because his tests and exam were so easy! He will pinpoint tell you what he'll test you on. If you're already good at french, this class will be a breeze!

Very good French professor. In my opinion, one of the best at Ryerson. I took both 101 and 201 with him and he taught them similarly. He gives weakly quizzes in which you write the dictation of a story. He gives you everything you need to know before each quiz and test. Finals were very fair. Almost every student who participated regularly got an A

Professor Lorioz is not helpful at all. He does not explain the answers to homework, he simply gives them and moves on to the next question. His teaching style is all over the place and he has ZERO structure. He constantly makes sarcastic jokes that are at many times inappropriate and condescending. Lastly, HE DOES NOT ALLOW BREAKS !

Going over the textbook - whether it's an older version, PDF version, online textbook whatever, it helps ALOT. Make a friend in the class who seems more comfortable with French and is getting the hang of it. Having someone to have a 'conversation' in or about French will help your grade.

He is EXTREMELY rude. I would not take a French class with him again. As this is beginner French, he expects you to be experts by the end of the semester when many individuals like myself have not taken French since grade 9. He is not understanding nor clear in his lectures. He makes it hard to ask for help, as he will reply,"we went over this".

If you have no background in french at all then I suggest not to take this course because he expects you to know grade 9 french. Half of my class didn't have any background in FRE and they passed barely because he passed them. But if he didn't, they would all be failing that course. The final exam was easy. There's an oral final as well, good luck!

Prof. Jacques does his job very well and is there to help you. if you put in the work you will see good results and gives you chances to re submit a work if u didn't get perfect. although i am fluent in french, he helped me enhance my grammar and classes were enjoyable. if u aren't fluent in french, don't take FRE701. he won't translate anything
