He makes history very interesting and adds in his own side comments which made me chuckle all the time. If you can take his class do it, you'll be glad you did even if the tests are difficult and the work is tough.

Highly recommend this class. Had no idea what I was walking into, and knew it wouldn't be a GPA booster (it's not). I just want to say, a high GPA is not everything, and what is more important is having a teacher in front of you who really cares about world issues, making YOU more knowledgeable about them. Eye opener.

Jake is a really nice guy but he doesn't teach the class. he rambles on and on for 3 hours and he is really hard to follow. The lowest grade that I have received at Kwantlen so far is a B and I am currently battling to pass this course. It really is a GPA killer unless your a HIST major. Do not take this if you are just looking for an elective.

Hilarious, very very knowledgeable, follow his expectations and will do fine. Fair marker. Understanding. Prepare to sit for 1.5 hour + lectures though sometimes! Opinionated so prepare for controversial comments. Def recommend him.

Textbook is a must! Interesting guy, funny but lectures are extremely long and boring, A lot of group discussions so that helps boost your mark. He provides a lot of feedback which is also great. Oh but he still uses a projector so thats very annoying.

Absolutely loved Jake! He is incredibly knowledgeable and his dry sense of humour made going to class so entertaining. Yes, he is a tough marker, but you are in university-get used to it! He is very fair and provides more feedback than any prof I've ever had. I would definitely take a class with him again.

I took a course with Professor Newton at UBC and thoroughly enjoyed the way he engaged with the class. He was always receptive to hearing our opinions - whether he agreed with us or not. He let us think and express. Great passion for history from a great teacher!

This guys is so biased on so many issues and if you stand against him, no matter how much evidence you give and back up your point he will mark you down for not agreeing with him. He's not impartial at all for history prof. Terrible waste of time during lectures going on random tangents. Overall, don't take class with him. He's very bitter.

Whether or not you read the assigned readings before the class they're for,you will be lost. He stands there and reads to the class, and his lectures aren't notable so you end up with no notes, and you're stuck re-reading the entire text to study for the midterm and final...didn't learn anything...but somehow managed a B...good luck!

Really easy prof. I find his lectures to be quite monotone though and he tends to incorporate quite a bit of sarcasm. Hates it when people use laptops during movies and presentations, he even gave us a lecture on good manners once.

Awesome teacher. Especially History 1945 - 2000 - great insight, lived in England during the war. Very funny little antecdotes through out the lecture. Not a terribly hard marker, helpful feedback, reasonable tests. Great guy.
