Transfer!!! makes an easy class ridiculously hard. homework is pointless as its so absurd to the course content. if ur a self learner u will survive.

Carrell seems like a smart guy but unfortunately he is exceedingly arbitriary in his choice of lectures and homework assignments. The homework seems totally unrelated to the lectures and very hard. Some things on the homework he never mentioned in class but expected his students to read from his cryptic notes. Marks easy, but teaches nothing.

He had a good sense of humour and tried to keep the lectures interesting, but I felt he sometimes went exceptionally slow on the easy stuff and lightning fast on the hard stuff. He was approachable, and very willing to help, however. The homeworks weren't hard, but the wording was at times unclear. Good prof overall.

I didn't find the online notes (which served as a textbook) helpful and the assignments were very time consuming and -- I thought -- difficult. The lectures were fine -- quite easy to follow and interesting enough. He is approachable if you have difficulties, questions, etc.

Really nice guy, but his lectures were essentially geared towards the small handful of people in the class who actually knew what was going on. Furthermore, the assignments were inordinately difficult. Avoid 223 in general.

he is sometimes challenging to understand all right..but at all he is a good professor. reading his notes is not that easy and requires some math background but as soon as you get it, it is very rewarding and self-satisfactory.

He sure knows what he is doing, but he really can't teach. When he lectures, it feels like he's talking to himself, ignoring students. No one has a chance to ask questions, and he assumes everyone has previous knowledge that really isn't taught in Math 322

well.I don't know why people complain about his class. He is a typical math prof who masters the material so well himself(doing nxn matrix algebra like ordinary algebra). If follow his lectrure notes and online notes closely, you will clearly predict what's going to be on the final or midterm.

I never understand what he is doing in his lectures. It is a bit easier to learn on your own but the online notes he provides are also confusing. I ended up having to pay a tutor $30/hour and learned more in 6 hours than I did the entire term in Carrell's class.

Learn to teach yourself. He can't teach. Going to his lecture is a waste of time. It's better to stay home and read the online notes.

Lean to suck up to him and you will be a happy camper. I didn't suck up to him and he didn't scale up my mark, but I am certain that he scaled the "teacher's pets" up. His MTs and Finial are more of concepts and proofs, and yet the class isn't p

To succeed in his class, do the following: 1. learn to teach yourself 2. forget the text, and learn from his notes :( 3. Read the section and do the problems prior to attending the lecture, else it might be tough for most ppl to follow. 4. Ignore pro

Oh man, Carrel must be one of the most unclear professors that I have met. He's a nice guy, but his notes are much to sporadic, and he expects you to magically know things prior to the class starting. I found it hard to learn.
