Comment:

Cook is retired now. The semester I took Cobol (Fall 2009), Texas State had one of the few Cobol courses still being taught and Cook did a good job of it. He is not easy. He has little patience, but if you respected him and worked hard, he was a great coach to have. He also had a soft spot for Disney characters.

I think he may be retired now, but I have to rate b/c of how wrong these reviews are. I took his class Summer 2011 and to this day, Dr. Cook is the BEST professor I have ever had. You have to make an effort and attend class, but he do everything he can to help you succeed and learn the material. Tests are exactly the same as homework and handouts.

If I had another professor like this I would drop out of school. All of my friends struggled with him including myself. He wrote rude comments on my test and there is NO other grade for homework outside of 6% for projects. Meaning the tests are 94%. Difficult, extremely difficult. Not to mention he's incredibly rude.

All these people saying cook is the worst teacher ever are 100% correct. He is rude when you ask him a question, tells the same story about his wife's cell phone every week, and is generally too old to be teaching a class like this. He's been doing it for 35 years but somehow still doesn't know how to budget his time or actually teach anything.

Very hard class. When someone asks a question he is being very weird and doesn't answer. He is insecure and compares himself to other Stat professors. There is a lot of homework. His classes are boring and monotone. I do NOT recommend this teacher!

WARNING! By far the worst professor I have ever taken. 4 tests and 3 projects, and he will take off points for the smallest things. Keeps you 5min after class. If you want to at least pass, you must go to the test reviews. Do not take.

This is the worst professor I have ever had! DO NOT take this class with him! Dr. Cook is very rude and talks down to people. He doesn't utilize class time wisely, he keeps everyone after class at least 3 minutes every class. The only thing that is helpful are his exam reviews, otherwise going to class is a complete waste of time!

This class will be hard, no matter who your professor is. I would take Cook again in an instant. I hated stats and didn't care for his classes, but his teaching (mostly the review sessions...they were the most helpful because you have to do your homework to go, but that is why I still remember how to do hypotheses) was good. Just take him.

He can seem VERY intimidating and very sarcastic. But he is very passionate about the subject which is why he doesn't want to put up with students who dont want to listen. If you do well and be attentive in his class, you will be on his good side. His reviews are SO helpful. Made an A on every test without other studying. Probably best stat teacher

Ok, to correct some of the post for future students -- yes he doesn love his red pen, however he does it so you'll learn -- he gives an incredible amount of time and effort into grading and isn't doing it to punish anyone -- AMAZING teacher! HIGHLY recommend to anyone needing QMST 2333. Review sessions are VERY helpful

very good teacher! this class is hard, but he is really good at explaining it. he holds an after class test review and its EXACTLY like the test! the catch is that you must do ALL (yes-he will check) of your homework. He does have a tough exterior, but one-on-one he is really nice. he has no tolerance for slacker and is nice to those that try!

Dr. Cook is a really great prof. The class is hard and boring and he does the best he can to help you learn. He holds exam reviews before each test make sure you go and you will do fine in the class. He is really strict in his ways do everything exactly how he wants it cause if you dont he will take points off. Overall he is really good.

Hard to understand. I don't know if it's because I have him at 8am or what but I can't learn from him. Make sure you go to the reviews, it's the only reason I'm passing the class. I feel like he gave lots of partial credit on the tests which is a very good thing.

Dr. Cook is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is VERY thorough in his lectures and takes his own time out before the tests to hold great review sessions. He is strict, but justly so. He expects what every college aged student should expect from themselves.
