Really great guy, however his lectures put me to sleep. He is beyond intelligent and accomplished but he will never tell you that as he is super humble! Very understanding and will help you out if you are having trouble.

Dr. James Doelman is quite simply the best professor at Brescia. This is not to take away from the others, but he is absolutely wonderful. His enthusiasm about literature is unmatched. His lectures are rich and interesting. His tests are challenging, but always fair. His classes are best if you are looking to Major in English. He really is the best

One of the best professors I've ever had! He is extremely knowledgeable, very helpful in explaining guidelines and assignments, and is always enthusiastic about what he teaches. He sets high standards, but this only serves to make better students. If you make a concentrated effort he will help you every step of the way. Absolutely wonderful guy!

Very passionate, very clear, and you always know what you're going to get on tests and quizzes and doesn't leave you in the dark about anything. His feedback is highly constructive. Makes somewhat boring subject matter very interesting. I thought I'd hate the class but it came out being my favourite of the year.

Professor Doelman was undoubtedly one of my FAVOURITE profs EVER! He was MORE than accommodating, EXTREMELY enthusiastic, very passionate about English. He just wants to see motivation and initiative. I struggled with meeting deadlines and understanding exactly what he was lookin for and he spent WEEKS helping me! GREAT PROF!

I had Doelman three times while at Brescia, and I love him! I agree that he is a hard marker--I would never argue that, but he is helpful with assignments and any questions or concerns that you may have. To those who say that his ENG 020 material was "too advanced" you are insane. I loved the ENG 020 Material.

Excellent professor. He requires you to complete the readings and expects nothing less. He challenges you on assignments. If you complete the readings and write well, it is definitely possible to do extremely well in his classes. He does not play favourites (perhaps spelling his name right would have improved marks for some people who commented?)

Professor Doelman is a nice man and he can be approachable, BUT you MUST go to class. If he see's that you do not attand class he may not be as accomidating. Overall, a hard marker but, if you do not do things in his way or say what he wants to hear then you will not get the greatest marks. For a first year course the material was very advanced.

I find Prof. Doleman to be very knowledgable, but sometimes it overwhelming. I sometimes find that his expectations are fuzzy, and unclear. I feel that he marks with a personal bias and feels that his opinion is the only right one. Other than that, he's very intellegent and has lots to offer someone who would like to go far in Enlish. not me

(and 204). His courses are for serious students with serious work ethic. Extremely rewarding growth as a writer, thinker. Good work justly rewarded. As long as you work hard, the marks will be there. Long term gains include polishing of writing ability, and kind resource to always turn to.
