He was an amazing teacher! I truly enjoyed his class. It was nice to see a teacher that has passion for the subject. It isn't a easy A. Showing up to every class and paying attentions to the lectures is necessary; however, his lectures are great and the way he teaches makes the material stick. Overall, awesome class and teacher!

Great instructor! So much knowledge of the subject delivered in a way that makes you want to listen. Be prepared to do homework and spend time on the labs. Contrary to what you are told this is not an easy A, like any course, it takes a little work. Jim is extremely helpful and fair, if you're struggling, ask! Pay attention in lecture. Took 101&102

Jim is an amazing teacher, his strength lies in his passion for the subject which will captivate you. Very accessible after classes. Don't go and think that you won't have to study , you need to invest a bit of time into this course. --Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man. If you lack one, compensate.

This was fun, interesting and inspirational to have a class with him, for he knows his subject well and loves it. Ready to give feedback and support, regarding your labs and review tests. I didn't do well on this course, though this is on my own responsibility. I wasn't reading. Still, I think he is one of those profs any prof should be

i just graduated because of him . ames Nemec is pretty sweet because of how stoked he is about Astronomy. He basically convinced me to become an Astronomy major. You can tell how smart the guy is as well. The thing about his classes is they're kind of scattered lectures, and he repeats things a lot. The only way you'll know what's on the tests is f

James doesn't use computers, so all of his notes are hand written (which can be hard to read). His exams are on the notes he writes down and sometimes things he's just said in class, so pay attention. Although it doesn't say so, some knowledge from Math 12 and Physics 12 would help you greatly. He's a good prof.

Honestly I don't think there's anyone who could better teach this course. He's so passionate about what he's teaching and will totally help you with anything in class. Super easy to ask questions during a lecture and get a decent mark if you actually go to every class. Can't wait for 102 next semester!

I originally took astronomy 101 because i thought it was a fun topic, but i had no intention of continuing it throughout my education. Since I took James' class I have a true interest in learning more. James is truly fascinated by Astronomy and he has inspired me to learn. He is a rare type of teacher who truly cares about his students. -P

Jim is a great prof! Took both 101 & 102 and really enjoyed them, though I liked the material in 101 better because I found it more useful (i.e. within the solar system). Jim was always really helpful and would explainclarify things whenever I asked. Just make sure you go to class and take notes because exam ques are almost entirely from lectures.

I took both of his classes: 101 & 102, and I got A- on both. Couses were hard, but James is not a tough grader, and he is very patient to explain. We got a lot of experients to do, not hard bot took a lot times to finish.

My favorite prof to date. he wants you to succeed. Although you do have to put in a lot of work to get a good grade, and Dr Nemec tends to jump around a lot in his lectures, should you ask for help he always makes himself available. He is a hilarious guy always throwing in jokes. It is helpful to read textbook for better clarification. Great class.

Overall a great guy who is very a passionate about his field and teaching it to the next generation of astronomers. He is hilariously quarky. Always will go out of his way to help and will strike up a conversation outside of class. My favourite post-secondary class to date!!

Very into the subject, but his lectures are all over the map. Hard to follow. Assumes students have math knowledge even though there is no prereq for it. However he will help you on anything, you just have to ask.

Nemec you can tell is very into what he does and has a clear passion for it. He is a fairly decent marker and the lectures are well explained attendance is a must. The only downside is that the labs arent very instructed but are interesting and kinda fun to do once you get the hang of it. If youre interested in astronomy take his classes!

Nice guy. Is passionate about astronomy. Tests and labs were very hard though. Tests you on things he mentions in class that are not in textbook. Didn't expect to be on tests because they only get passing mention. Doesn't explain formulas and equations very well which were the hardest parts. Labs can be extremely frustrating.

Took Jim for both AST 101, and 102. Great and funny teacher, though sometimes he does not know just how funny he is! He comes to class seemingly unprepared as in what he is going to actually talk about, but actually does so seamlessly. Read the text, ask questions, but don't get him too far off topic if you actually want to get through the material
