if you are smart and independent he is very easy for marks and you learn. there is no class, you learn from a textbook he made of notes (which is very good). he bell curves overall to 75 and most people are stupid so i got 100% final mark. marking scheme is very generous too 50/50 or 100% final

He is a great prof who knows what he is teaching. All the complaints on the board are the people who are the annoying jerks in your classes. If you're a dimwit, you'll hate the class.

lots of math for an arts course. if you're not comfortable with manipulating equations, you'll have a hard time. online course notes do not reflect the actual exam (notes are more difficult). interesting grading system will bell you up. dl software to view course notes before enrolling in the course so you know what you're getting yourself into

Awful prof; discourages participation, badgers students, terrible clarity, endless notation for concepts that should not be complex, and even more for concepts that are complex. This is essentially a math course taught to non math students, which explains the incredibly low averages.

Another example why UW shouldn't be the Best Overall university in the country! I am one of those stock market/finance fanatics and even I found his class boring. His class announcements include "you can skip class and go for a beer instead"! He uses stupid custom made software to write notes; doesn't reply to emails; can't even maintain a website!

I found the topics interesting, but the prof made the class environment very edgy and unwelcome. At one midterm, he was going to kick someone out of the room for having a stuffy nose! The class is all about beating the pre-adjusted class average. Do that and you'll get 75% and above.

Financial derivatives are non-trivial concepts. Prof. Redekop did a good job on making those helpful notes. Smart and hard-working students should easily get a 90+ in this course.

This guy is a complete moron. He thinks he knows how to program, but he hasn't even discovered how to use line breaks in HTML. The WMI program for the course is laughably pathetic, it looks like a **** four year old made that program. In fact, a **** four year old probably would have done a better job.

Tough but fair. Questions are tricky but tons of examples and all past exams are available, amd he bells so no one fails. And really intersting stuff, as long as you can understand it. Very mathematical/lots of proofs for an arts course, but worthwhile.

Marking schemes are awful. Marking is strict but not truly fair. Very difficult to understand what is expected for definitions, non-calculation questions. Course can easily be learned without attending lectures though.

The only course I've taken where the prof recommends not coming to class. Lectures are useful, but you can do well without. Exams are tricky, marking key is really tough, but he bells to 75% (so tough marking key isn't a problem) and he keeps all the past exams online. Take this course you won't regret it

He is a very unclear in explaining things. if you don't know something or don't understand, then you are stupid. Marking is tough and exams are weird. Unless you are very good at finance and it's just another course, don't take it!

This guy definitely knows his stuff. He's too smart to teach this course tho. He expects the students to know a lot of financial knowledge...can be condescending at times due to him being so freakin' smart about finance, but i don't think he does it purposely. In the end, brilliant guy who knows his stuff, but needs to teach at Harvard, not UW.

I wouldn't reccommend this class. I took it was an elective and found it more work then I anticipated. The guy makes this class hard and the bottom line is you have to put in a lot amount of work, and the material is boring so its not really worth it unless you're one of thos guys obsessed about the stock market.

James taught us one of the best courses in the Masters of Finance program. Great lecture notes and class organization. He is very modest, down to earth, and easy to talk to. James, I will stop by and say hello some day.

James is a brilliant man. Unfortunately, the course is twice as hard as any other eco course. Basically, he should teach PhD students only. He should try MIT or U of Chicago. Great guy to drink with. Needs to clean up his image though, covered in food most days.
