I'm an IUP alumni and I'm telling you, Solak may be hard to relate to, and the assigned work may seem like a waste of time, but he is excellent. I had him for my programming classes. He provides you with a very strong foundation, I promise you will not regret it. Do your work, go to class, and visit him during office hours. Its WORTH IT!

I am a recent graduate. I thought that his teachings were kind of a joke, ie. outdated and too much. However, I have him specifically to thank for landing a great job. Everything to a T is how my company does it. The documentation, DFD's, Flow charts,SDLC fundamentals we use! Because of the things I leared in his classes, I now have a job!

Granted this is probably the easiest class you'll ever take, Dr. Solak still was a super nice guy and a really good teacher. All of his tests are open note and if you can read you can get an easy A. If you can definitely take him. Great class.

He is not a bad one at IUP. MIS department has pioneered at IUP in teaching many new technical courses, not as the guy below said. The faculty members work very hard to keep students current in web programming, database, Java, and C++, and open sources. MIS is one of the best departments at IUP.

I feel and agree with the other writings/opinions that the mis department should be ashamed. They do not teach you really anything, and are almost backwards in preparing you for a career. I honestly don't think that they really care. Don't waste your time/money here on an mis degree.

The project is good. He does not use the book except for test. Too bad, the book is good. He cannot write one line of VB.Net so you’re on your own. Make sure your Queries and softcopies work well. I got an A!

You may think he doesn't teach well, or what he teaches is useless, but I found several jobs using what he has taught. It's not all as useless as he says. Learn it and you will have no problem finding a job!

Excellent professor. Comes off as kind of a jerk, but once you get to know him you realize its all a front. He will mess with ya a little, but he's just goofing off. Really enjoyed his classes. You can't miss class, and you will work, but it's all worth it in the end.

I hated cobol. But design and analysis was great. I love his sarcasim!! People think hes mean, he isnt, he just does it to mess with ya a little, dont be scared, its a front. If you make it through cobol your fine! I will miss him a little.
