One of the foremost political/ philosophical minds anyone's going to be able to find as a prof. He can be tough, and even offensive if you dont agree with him, but if you're interested in the material you probably thrive on that anyways. Highly recommended if you're willing to put in some effort...and the occasional fiery debate.

Best professor I've ever had. Is always helpful (returns emails very quickly, will talk after class). Laid back style (very loose about essay topics + due dates). Knows his stuff + is very rational (I feel sorry for the people trying to refute him in class with arguments grounded in sentiment). His tests are very difficult though so LEARN TO STUDY!

Narveson is very knowledgeable and has great insight into philosophical theories. Sure he has his opinions, but I'm glad he is able to speak some sense into religious, conservative people. He is very logical and is able to provide good clear examples. I would assume that most poor marks are from non philosophy majors (stick to your major).

You all do know that Jan Narveson is easily one of the most famous libertarians alive right now right? As far as ethical theory goes, his writing is hugely prolific. Just because you dont like someone's speaking style doesn't mean they arent brilliant. Most of his work is easy to read as well.

Just dropped this class. Horrible prof. Made a polisci theory course into a philosophy of morality class. goes way off topic and tears apart fundamental scholars of political theory using modern examples that can be rebutted, but your opinion doesn't matter. boring as well. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS

very helpful. his tests are very tricky if you don't understand what he says in class..however, overall, I enjoyed his class. the material that he had to work with was pretty boring, but he makes the best of it by adding his own personal comments in

Worse class to attend. Very boring, and jumps all over the place. If you disagree keep to yourself, doesnt even care. M/C tests written in vague language so not clear what asking. Dont take his class

Pretty easy class if you pay attention and do at least most of the readings. If you are not a libertarian, you will probably agree with him HALF the time or less. Don't try to "win" arguments, on tests all you have to do is show that you understood what he was talking about. Classes got to be a bit boring by the end of term.

I am now going into the third class I have had him for. He has the same problem in all of them. It's almost impossible to focus on what the authors are saying because he just tears it apart on every detail in class. READ THE BOOKS CAREFULLY and make sure you are right if you are going against him.

He is hard to understand in class because of his mumbling. I wouldn't recommend taking this unless you have to. You basically have to regurgitate his opinion back to do well in the course. Close minded and condescending.

He seems like a nice guy but he is awfully boring. He made hard concepts easy to understand but the lectures were so boring that most of the time I fell asleep or left the class. The assignments were pretty easy though. DON'T try and get away with not doing the readings and pretending you read them for the assignments...cause he WILL catch you!

He helped me with my paper. I did pretty good, but not great. Lots of left-wing types hate him. Clearly he doesn't agree with their politics, but I think they've skewed his rating on this website as part of a political vendetta. He's pretty good. I'd take him again. I learned a lot.
