Professor Richards is an Eygptomaniac! She has a solid understand of the Egyptian culture and history and has a ton of experience in the field. Her lectures are extremely dry, but can't complain since the exams are really easy.

This woman can read hieroglyphics that she's never seen before like a first language. And she's passionate.

Professor Richards was my favorite! She really cares about her students and wants everyone to get the most out of class. She gave me an entirely new appreciation for Egypt and archeology. I admire the work she does and think anyone who wants to take from an impressive and fun teacher should take her class.

Little dry sometimes but overall enjoyable. Books were not necessary, just take good notes in class. Super laid back and interesting. Nothing in the reading that she did not mention in class. Homework load was nonexistent. Reviews before the exams were super helpful and study guides were provided.

Dont take this class if you are looking for a basic overview. It goes very in depth which is not what I was looking for but if you are really interested in Egyptian history, this is for you! Prof. Richards is very knowledgeable. Goes into a lot of detail on artifacts. She is a bit dry, but if you're interested it should be fine. Lectures help tons!

The material is presented a tad dryly, but I still enjoyed the class. Professor Richards is very passionate about her discipline and that's a hard trait to fault.

Prof Richards is really great! If you are interested in Ancient Egypt, then you should definitely take this class! If you don't really care, or want to go into considerable detail, then this isn't for you. She really knows her stuff, you can tell that she is passionate about it, and it's overall really fascinating. TAKE IT

She is amazing! she's passionate about the subject and it shows. She's also very helpful if you are interested in going into the field. Prof. Richards seems always willing to lend and hand and I feel like she has gone above and beyond what is required of a professor.

Beginning of the semester, lectures were boring because of her monotone voice. But as the semester went on, I rather started enjoying this laidback easy class. Interesting videos of mummy excavations over the semester, exams relatively easy, and professor Richards even cracked some jokes. Attend lectures and take notes (helpful for exam)

Comment:
History of Egypt=much more boring than you'd think. The material COULD be interesting, but was presented poorly; the readings were long and torturous to get through. In lecture, she talks too fast and monotone. I'm sure that she enjoys the material, but you can tell that most students are bored out of their minds. Difficult lecture to stay awake in

Interesting stuff presented in a very boring way. She has little enthusiasm during lecture, and that combined with the fact that it is an hour and a half brings an uncontrollable urge to nap. She knows her stuff, but profs dont get much less enthusiastic and monotone than her. Exams are easy though...

Exams were a breeze if you paid attention to the review sheets and knew the terms. Lectures are killer for sure though. I recommend recording them for later use. It did help when reviewing and doing assignments for discussion.

She killed Egypt for me. Very snobbish, tended to add last minute readings right before the exams, and spends the most time discussing her work in Egypt and her articles. She does grade easy though. I recommend bringing an audio recorder to class as she speaks quickly on a regular basis and speeds up when she is running out of time.

This class is very easy. Lecture is usually really boring but the tests are so simple. She gives you a review sheet for each test with what terms you'll have to know and all you need to do in order to get an A is to just memorize a bunch of facts.

The most boring class I have ever taken at U of M. Lecture is an excruciating 1.5hrs 2x/week. We would cover huge amounts of material, and then only be tested on a few random facts (*very frustrating). Impossible to study for w/ very litte direction given. She babbles. Do not take this class.
