Comment:
Professor Lampert is a very nice instructor. Yes, sometimes his lectures are long and kind of boring but overall they're necessary to understand some of the readings. He gives two papers, so be prepared to understand and analyze but if you need help, he's there. Take notes, read the texts, attend the lectures and pay attention, and you'll be fine.

Comment:
I am not a philosophy student and found this class pretty boring. The lectures were very dry and Lampert has a pretty monotone voice that makes long classes hard to sit through. However, he is a very nice prof and will try to help you if he can. The class also has a reasonable amount of reading that I found as boring as the lectures

Comment:
From the moment you meet this man it is obvious that he is extremely intelligent. He provides no online notes so you must attend class, it can get very very dry and boring because he is not the most interesting person to listen to. The readings are everything in this class and if you don't read the required 5 novels you are completely screwed.

Comment:
A clear, accessible, and likable lecturer, with an obvious passion for continental philosophy. I did, however, find myself occasionally wondering how penetrating his understanding of the material--in this case, Leibniz and Heidegger--was, and his reflexive hipsterism and nostalgic evocations of the sixties do get annoying.

It's mandatory to attend lectures, since no online notes are provided, but I found that I got more out of this class with his particular brand of lectures than I have in any other class thus far. Overall very approachable and highly intelligent. He knows his stuff, and he loves to be challenged. Makes for awesome in-class discussions.

absolutely amazing. took his existentialism class and it was the reason I just declared a second major in Philosophy. three hour lectures fly by if you like the material. really funny, ridiculously smart, really approachable, really strange. a perfect combination for a philosophy prof! take a class with him if you get the chance!!!

Seems very smart but boring long lectures. Not very available for office hours. Why is he here in a department with so many other great profs?

Extremely knowledgeable with expectations high enough. I'd take more of his classes, but he only does once-a-week, three hour lectures, which at times can get a little unbearable. If you like philosophy, you should at least see what he's like and decide if his teaching style is right for you. Be prepared to work/learn!

Really smart teacher, like yoda, you dont want to counter his comments because he will hit you back with so much evidence to prove his point or your ignorance what a great guy, hard class, not to be blunt but the classes are boring and if i make it to second year i will go in his second year philosophy class.

This man is sort of evil. He gives us "in class participation" marks worth 10% over dinky quizes, and he then says that he'll make the exam hard. When he talks with the class, we all just stare at him because he can be boring sometimes. He seems like a nice guy though.

This man's a hardcore philosopher - pulls lectures out of his mind and a page of a book right on the spot. Not afraid to tell it like it is - like it or not. Incredibly smart.
