John is the funniest man on campus. He incorporates humor in his lectures which make them more engaging. The only tough part is the grade is solely based on 3 exams and a paper. If you show up to class and take good notes you'll be fine. Reading the textbook is necessary to do good.

No hw grade is only tests and one writing assignment. He can be really funny at times but he tells super long stories that are hard to pay attention to during lecture. 8.5x11 cheat sheet for tests which is a life saver. Tests arent super difficult if youre a relatively good test taker.

Lectures interesting bc he tells stories and jokes. The only thing you're graded on is 3 midterms, a paper, and the final. He allows you to have a full 8.5x11 cheat sheet for each exam and nothing is cumulative but the key terms on the final. The tests do go over reading though. Paper is straight-forward. Easy unless you're a bad test taker.

I like Professor Mercurio as a person but as a teacher, I never want to take another class with him. His tests are hard and do not contain information covered in the book or lecture. He doesn't give out study guides which makes trying to study difficult. Our grade is made up of just 3 tests and a paper, it's very easy to do poorly in this class

Pretty much all of the test is found in the textbook but class notes help specific what you should focus on. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should find a way to get notes on days you skip. Attaining an A is difficult unless you work really hard on your own and memorize the long chapter. If you dont read dont take this class

1/4 of the test questions are random specific questions not mentioned in the book or lecture. The class is graded only on two tests, one paper and the final. the paper is easy but the tests are hard and taken with webcam and lock down browser. constantly goes off topic. do not take

Please, if you care anything about your GPA do not take this class! Only 5 grades in class, 4 tests, and 1 paper. While that sounds nice it is not! Tests are way too difficult for 101, or 102 poli sci class, so if you mess up on one or two tests goodbye good grade. I seriously regret taking his courses. Hope this saves someone else.

He really wasn't that bad of a teacher. Tests were all online and based off chapters in the book so make sure you take notes outside of class. (Take notes on the bold terms in each chapter) Use quizlet to study and make sure you at least skim read the chapters. Overall not a super hard class but you gotta work hard for an A

This was the hardest course I've ever taken. The exams are ridiculously difficult because they go much further than the curriculum he teaches. He spends half of the class discussing his own problems and fails to prepare you for exams. He also expects you to take all of the notes based off of his verbal lecture with no substantial powerpoint info.

Mercurio is very grumpy all the time and spends the first HALF of class complaining about his personal life. Lectures have nothing to do with tests, must read textbook in depth to get a good grade. The class is only made of 3 multiple choice online (using LockdDown Browser) tests and one essay. Mercurio is lazy and does not care about his students.

Mercurio is a funny professor who made lectures fun and interesting. However, he does not provide study guides for the exams and the exams are VERY HARD. They are detail oriented and cover a lot of chapter. To do well, you really need to put a lot of effort in, read the textbooks multiple times, and not depend on lecture notes.

Mercurio is a funny guy and made going to class pretty entertaining. However, he only puts about four things in the grade book, three of which are tests. They are taken online with a webcam, and most of the questions are from the textbook (which is free online). I stopped going to class and still did well, so attendance is not important, just read.

be ready to memorize the textbook because at least 75% of all the exams are on it, luckily he provides a PDF of it, lecture counts for the rest. hes using a webcam+browser anticheat system now so its up to your studying, the one paper was kind of easy, do not recommend taking for a grade, C/NC if possible because he is not easy for a GE

I think this is the first semester to use monitor and lockdown browser during online exam. He also made the test question by himself, not the question bank. This is exactly terrible. The class is not as easy as others thought now. I choose this class for its easy-to-pass online test, but I think I has been framed.

I regret taking this class so much. The tests are very difficult, not to mention he encourages us not to share our notes with each other. He is awkward and often goes off topic to make personal jokes leaving everyone feeling very uncomfortable. I truly don't mean to be harsh, but he is a very self-centered and insensitive teacher.

He thinks he is so funny and rarely actually teaches anything valuable for the exams. The tests are way hard and online with a monitor, the book is a stupid waste of time 86% of the time. Wish there was a study guide, or more assignments to balance out my horrible test grades. This class was supposed to be an easy GE for me. Lol guess not.

All of the reviews before the spring semester are false, although sometimes funny the class requires you to teach yourself, he expects you to know everything and provide the text book as a "study guide". There is no longer open note tests and he doesn't seem to care about his students all that much, if you can take another class, do it.
