Comment:

Egotistical, arrogant and completely self-righteous. Day one she told us that teaching the class was beneath her. I tried going for help, and was a waste of my time, as was the class. No room for independent thought; she only really wanted us to agree with her brilliant (and singularly correct) lectures and explanations. Just the worst.

Nothing about this prof is easy. Hard assignments, hard marker, long tests. Her class average is still the lowest of any class I have taken. Assignments due almost every week. Take home exam took me almost 30 hours. Did not finish a single in-class test/essay (only class this has ever been an issue). Was very good about giving re-do's & feedback

She was a decent teacher, hard but helpful. Her problem was racing through content and essays without giving us enough time to fully learn and enhance our writing. She would expect a draft of ever essay, and a final copy of the essay each week.

Suffice it to say that before I even took a class with Dr. Shami, she was offering me help and conversing with me in the hallways. She's an incredibly friendly person, who is amazingly talented at what she does. Don't get her wrong -- yes, she's going to brutalize you on marks. If you truly love English, and put the effort in, though, you'll do well.

65% on first essay. My second essay showed "an excellent job of making key points," and "a real improvement over [my] first essay." In addition, my writing "also improved." All of this resulted in a much improved grade of ... 69% ??? Don't get me wrong; I like her. I would take another class with her.

great prof, does her best to make those renaissance sermons interesting. readings were a tough slog but she was helpful and very kind. she appreciated the amount of effort I had to put in. a rewarding experience, but tough.

I took this in my last semester of University and I wish I had taken classes from her earlier. She is very helpful in and out of class, and is interested in helping. She's a tough marker, but she gives you tonnes of time to fix your mistakes. She will help you to write effectively. Wonderful person!

Very intelligent and knowledgeable. Tough marker, but challenges you, and is very helpful. I feel that my writing has improved a lot from her classes. I recommend, as long as you are serious about being there. She's also pretty hip.

She's friendly, yes, and learns everyone's names, but she's a very hard marker. I have never ever felt as stupid as I did in her class. My lowest University mark ever, and I'm an English major.
