Uses clickers for attendance & participation. Buy the $15 pre-made notes, they make life a lot easier. 4 or 5 tests. No study guides, just study your lecture notes. He tests on concepts more than simple terms. You should study 1-3 hrs for tests. He does curve. Do the extra credit, it helps a lot! I think Bryson retired after Fall 08.

A psych major recommended this class to me and I'm so glad I took his advice! Too bad Bryson just retired because he truly was a stand up comedian and amazingly knowledgeable professor all in one. I am fortunate to have been in his very last class. ;) Happy Retirement Prof Bryson!

This was my hardest class but I thought is was well structured and the grading really allows good students to stand out. At first the idea of Z-score based grading is intimidating but its much more practical than expecting to get 95% of the questions right to get an A. I highly recommend him to psych majors.

Sorry for all of you who had to miss out on Dr. Bryson but he is a GREAT professor. Let me just clear this up though, you will NOT miss his tests. I felt like I was taking the SAT's everytime I took one of his tests, but his lectures were funny, very clear, and informative. Great guy, great teacher. Hope he has a good retirement.

best 4 test scores are kept out of 5. Lectures consist of filling in blanks from his Ppt slides. If you have a busy schedule its hard to Ace exams because you really do need to read the book to get an A. On a lot of tests i just studied the notes and got Bs on them. other than that- totally LOVED this class! def recommend for upper div.

Smart, funny and nice. A challenging course but well worth it, despite the vast questionably obscure details you have to remember from some psychologists you've never heard of. Uses the clicker, which is prone to failure and may cancel class.

Yes this class is tough. But if you're a psych major making the class incredibly easy is doing you an injustice and is teaching you nothing about Psych. Prof Bryson makes sure you understand the CONCEPTS, not just memorize the "bold words" as someone else said. Coming to class and reading are a MUST. Interesting class with an entertaining prof.

Terrible Class. Bryson's lectures cover maybe 5% of the material on the test. Lectures are USELESS. I got an A but only because I read the book. Much of the class consistently bombed tests. READ every word of every page of the book and you will get your A, but forget the lectures. they will just confuse you. Clickers used. Some Extra Credit.

Very funny and outgoing teacher however his tests are very hard. His tests never include the bold words in the text it is always the smallest things that you simply would never remember while reading. I studied a lot and ended up with a B- If you take this class just know it won't be an easy thing. Do the extra credit though!!

great class, funny teacher, to pass make sure u attend class and take notes in the notebook thing. study those notes and chapter summaries and its an easy B. all tests are curved on a z-score basis so just dont be dumber than 3/4 of class and ur fine. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT, its super easy and helps alot, great class highly recommend it

One of the most interesting psych classes I have taken so far. A very charismatic and funny teacher and the stuff he says just makes sense. That being said reading the book is a must and so is coming to class. Test are tough but possible to ace if you study. I got an A.

Take GOOD notes and read your butt off to get a good grade in this class. His lectures are amusing and interesting, but hard to retain. In my opinion, his exams are difficult due only to the wording of his questions. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT & COME TO CLASS to get extra points. It makes a HUGE difference.

If you are not a psyc major don't trouble yourself. If you are a psyc major the class will be a breeze if you study, and I mean study. This is an upper level college course, be prepared to put in the work. Follow his advice on preparing for exams and you will do fine.

I was dissapointed. This class is really discouraging, he makes his tests so difficult, that you dont really learn the material. Nice guy, but his tests are just ridiculous, not fair at all. I got a B-. Read the book like crazy, thats my advice, and spend at least 20 hours studying so you can at least get a C.

Ok let me straighten everyone out on this class, if you're not a psychology major you have no business taking this class. If you are and can't hack it, perhaps you should consider changing your major.Very difficult test, questions are highly abstract just like the practice of psych is in the real world. 36 A's out of a class of 384.
