Comment:
I don't understand the terrible reviews for Dr. Hoyle. It can be challenging to understand what he's looking for at first, but you'll do fine if you work, think critically and don't expect everything to be handed to you.

Does not teach the information that he puts on test until after the test. Take way to much pleasure in the fact that he teaches a hard course and makes no effort to make it more understandable.

What an arrogant man. Tells his predicted fail rates before the tests are written, and they are almost always between 70-80%. The course has a fail rate of about 40, and he is just down right unfair on his tests. Its impossible to know what he's looking for and most people have to take it multiple times to pass. Don't take it here.

I found Hoyle to be a bit arrogant and to have some strange ideas about teaching, e.g.: he said he would like to have the entire course based on one exam with one question. My biggest complaint was that he is not a teacher. It's a difficult subject and Hoyle has no ability to put it in a form students can digest.

He is an amazing professor. I HIGHLY recommend taking the second part of organic chemistry. You learn way more in the second part and his other courses.

Hoyle is a great teacher. He explained everything clearly and made the tests manageable. His class the most enjoyable of my second year. It was challenging but thats what you signed up for isn't it? A good quality education. If you want org chem to be like picking wildflowers; I'd advise droping out and sending an application to SMU.

Amazing prof. You have to work hard but he rewards you for the effort. And if you do reading on your own above and beyond the course material he gives you bonus points. If you can try to take as much courses as possible with dr. H because you learn a lot

Org Chem is not meant to be a walk in the park. Hoyle has to teach it as it is and you must be prepared to work for it. He is a fair marker and if you are struggling go and see him and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Amazing and thoughtful teacher. Helped with many side interests of the students. Anyone who complains about him is usually not willing to put forth any effort in a very difficult course. Not shocking that some don't like him, but if they were honest they'd understand he was simply trying to help.

The only prof I have ever had who takes pride in students failing his course. Assigns an unreasonable amount of work, and loads extra on right around midterm time or when he has already assigned other assignments. His inflamed ego gets in the way of students ever learning anything.

I took his Chem2000 class three times, paid over 1500$ for the credit and I STILL think he's a ok guy. That says something about the man I think. Contrary to popular belief, he IS concerned with student progress but he is not willing to let students have marks. You MUST work for them.

This man's ego gets in the way of his teaching. Seems to take pleasure out of scaring students. Thinks it's his role to teach life skills - when in fact the class are there to learn Organic Chemistry! The subject shouldn't be as hard as he makes it out to be. Time for a new Prof!

Difficult course, but he works hard as a prof to make sure we learn well. Tests are hard and long, and sometimes cover material only briefly covered in class. He recommends buying a textbook for a reason...

You think you know what's going on, and then you get Hoyle's test and you have no idea what he's looking for as you flip through ALL the pages (most don't finish). Quite simply a perfectionist, who definately has 'favorites'. You're average English man: a very nice man who is very hard to please.
