If you get to know Dr. Ritchie, he is a very knowledgeable and kind person. His classes are very paper heavy and he expects a lot from you. But, in return, you learn so much and ultimately become a better employee and student. If you want to work hard for your grade and also learn some life lessons, take his classes. DCOM majors have to take him!

Comment:

Yes, lots of material for an intro class, but it pays off. He really wants you to know the material as it really matters. He knows his stuff. This is a bit of a difficult class and will push you, but he welcomes you to come in for help during his office hours.

Completely out of touch with teaching. Very confusing and hard to follow. Takes forever to give feedback. Not helpful during office hours. Not inclusive or accepting of different styles of learning. One of those professors that thinks and feels entitled instead of really wanting to reach, teach and help the student.

Awesome! Doesn't give a lot of assignments, but when he does, they are easy if you follow the directions. People who complain about him are misinformed. He makes you think though, and does not tolerate sophomoric writing in your papers, high expectations, but it's good.

His pop quizes are kind of rediculus. He expects you to remember the tiniest of details and takes off a lot of points if you do not have a photographic memory. He grades the papers pretty hard too and the best part is you will learn next to nothing.

Much more helpful in this class. He is more interested now then he was for intro levels. Though he still can be confusing, he has good intentions. Also gives opportunities to learn from mistakes by returning in assignment for a better grade.

For an intro DCOM class he is not very reassuring. He has a difficult teaching method and little faith in your abilities. He's all over the place and hard to follow. He also does not give out enough assignments and puts too much pressure with little help offered.

I had him for First Year Seminar: Digital Nation, he is a great professor. He is willing to help you on your papers, and the best thing about him is he doesn't like fluff in papers, he prefers it to be concise and to the point, which is awesome. He's not necessarily easy, but he's there for help anytime you need it.

I had the pleasure of having him for both English Comm I and II. He made both classes fun and exciting for me and the other students. He is a funny guy as well as an excellent teacher. The only thing that I didn't like is that sometimes it seemed like he had favorites and one time he made us write about a topic that was hard for me to relate to.
