Comment:
I am a senior majoring in philosophy at IPFW and have had Strayer about 5 times. Just make sure you pay attention to the PowerPoints and take note on which philosophers say what. If you want to succeed in hos classes, attention to detail is key. Also, his teaching assistant (Mandi) is extremely helpful. Do not be afraid to contact either of them.

Professor seems very unwilling to help, and will not respond to emails. The exams are not about the subject at all, but more about which philosopher said what. The writing assignments are worded horridly and are hard to understand. Seems as though if you don't put word for word what he is looking for you miss the entire question.

He doesn't have set deadlines at the beginning of the semester, so for those of you who like to plan ahead, you can't in his class. He bases his due dates off of where he gets in lectures with the class. You get about a weeks notice before the tests/2 written assignments which are both very confusing.

He gives 4 tests that are confusing the way he words the questions. Not great when he gives very little time to complete the tests. Then there are 2 written assignments that he wants exactly what he wants, tough. He gives study guides for the test that are poorly formatted so you spend too much time fixing. The guides haven't really helped me.

I learned pretty quickly how to pass this class. It's easy as long as you take the time and watch the online lectures and pay close attention. The tests are easy as long as you do the study guide and follow along with the class and lectures. Like most college courses, it requires work but it's pretty much an easy A if you put the effort it.

I've taken a few of Strayer's classes before and they are all pretty simple to pass. All you need to do is watch the online lectures (or let them play and not watch them) and have the powerpoints pulled up when you take the tests. All of the tests are online and the only other thing he grades are 2 writing assignments. Don't need the book either.

This teacher has four test in one semester and each test has three chapters. Each chapter has about three PDF's to read along with 100 slide power-points in tiny baby font. Seriously took two whole days just to make notes for. Plus, the two written assignments you do he grades really hard on. All I have to say is have fun trying to pass this class.

Tests were not as tricky as some said. Also not everything was read exact from the power points. He expanded more on things in lecture and was quite repetitive (which can be good for some, boring for others). Maybe not exciting but I still thought it was interesting and he knows his stuff. Easy if you watch lectures and read what he says to.

Critical thinking! Only 4 tests and 2 written assignments, so you really have to understand the material. I didn't watch lectures. I read the assigned chapters and hard copies of his PPTs. Because of the way he words test questions, it is necessary have a firm grasp on the material. I loved this class but it was definitely not an easy A.

He loves to talk about art. He has boring lectures and his tests are basically impossible it you take it alone. Try getting 3 people to take it at a time and you might just pass the class.

This class was required. The class consists of 4 tests and 2 assignments. So there isn't room for error. Difficult to comprehend and very monotone. If I had a choice I would not take this class.

I learned a lot and he was accessible via email. He also took enough grading the written assignments to observe that my answers to some questions were 'below my capability based on our emails and other work'

I took this class online.. his tests come straight from the power points. I never had to look at the books. His tests are online so you can use your notes for the tests. The tests are timed so you still have to be prepared. His tests are VERY WORDY and tricky. But I do believe he gives you all the tools to succeed through the powerpoints.

Most boring class ever. The professor is very nice, but he reads directly from power points and there isn't much class discussion. Tests are HARD. They're very tricky.

This guy reads every word from his power point slides every day. No discussion in class. Material is interesting, but the overall class is dull. All his tests are online and they are extremely tricky. The wording trips you up. Tests are very difficult...maybe cause he wants those who dont show up for class to have to work hard. No papers assigned.

Where to begin... his lectures are incredibly monotone and seem to drag on forever. He doesn't attempt to add any excitement to the topic. Tests are the hardest I've taken yet (sophmore), and incredibly wordy. Boring and challenging, I would not reccomend this class to anyone.

Took Philosophy of Art course with him. Also took Intro to Phil course. Philosophy of Art was much better. Bummed that there was really no discussion in his classes, just Strayer rambling for an hour in that monotone voice. Plus side, he's predictable. Once you learn how he does his tests it is awesomely easy to pass them.

I liked Strayer. His exams ARE wordy, so you have to read them carefully, but if you attend class and study the notes, you can get an A. Nice man.
