Comment:

Absolute worst professor I have ever taken. I truly learned nothing from this professor, I relied on SI to teach me the material for the course. He gave very long study guides but you weren't tested on all of the material. You need to teach yourself the material, look up videos, go to SI, get a tutor. Not very helpful in office hours either.

Comment:

I did not learn anything in lecture. He posted slides with information, and would basically just read over those slides in class, when you could just do that at home. READ THE BOOK AND GO TO SI SESSIONS. You will not do good on the exams if you don't read the book or do study guides. However, lab is extremely easy, and so are the quizzes.

Comment:

Expect to teach yourself through the book and always attend SIs. He does not care much about his students' success as much as other professors. The lecture is not mandatory, but I still went to keep a habit but I did not find lecture helpful whatsoever. Students that never went to class still did better than I did. I always used the book not notes.

he is not organized in the slightest I was dependent on the SI instructor. Most only go to class out of keeping a good habit, even those that do attend regularly do not look up unless it is a new blank or to take a picture of the screen because the slide is missing. The worst part, you do not know what you are being tested on.

If you have Betts be prepared to attend SI and read the book religiously. Lecture is pointless unless you arent good at taking notes on your own. With him you have to teach yourself everything. Exams are difficult and detailed study guides are not helpful.

If you are taking HSC 215, DO NOT take it with Dr. Betts. His study guides are nothing like the actual exams and his lectures are very boring. He goes straight from the book, and says everything must be learned on your own time. If you want to pass, I suggest going to SI from the very start

The absolute worst. Lecture is pointless as he just reads straight from the power point, and his exams are ridiculous. The study guides do NOT always match his exams. Best way to learn in his class is to go to SI.. A LOT.. Believe the hype of his inability to teach. But, on the bright side, at least he's a nice guy.

Only lectures but he doesn't realize that he is terrible at doing it. Just reads off his slides and gets sidetracked which only confuses students more. Gives you tons of lecture notes and then doesn't test you off of them. Instead pulls information from the book or the far reaches of his mind that he never mentioned for questions. Take anyone else.

Very disorganized, he literally forgot to give us one of our exams and had to give the whole class and A on it. Won't tell you what to study for the final, and just reads from the powerpoint to lecture.

Was the least organized professor I have ever had, syllabus was off my weeks and none of the exams were about the chapters he said they were. Good class but highly recommend taking with another professor. Doesn't email back unless done at least 3 times.

Was a very hard class. His lectures involve him reading off of powerpoints without realizing that you dont know the material as good as he does. I struggled soooo much to get a C in his class. Is a very nice guy and willing to help, but is just not an interesting or very good professor. You will have to study a lot, his exams are almost impossible.

Dr. Betts may get sidetracked during lectures but he is very knowledgeable about anatomy, physiology, obesity - just about anything related to the body and health. Utilize his office hours if you are feeling a bit lost. He is one of the best professors that I have had at CMU because of his willingness to work with students.

WORST PROF EVER. and the class is impossible. reads powerpoints so going to lecture is absolutely pointless and a waste of time. doesnt teach at all, so be ready to READ THE BOOK, TEACH YOURSELF, and go to SI if you have any intentions of passing with better than a D-. I did well in anatomy, a B+ and this class was ridiculous. Good luck.

He is deffinetly a teacher that I wouldn't want to take again. He completely reads off his powerpoints and trails off on things. He doesn't engage you in the lecture and doesn't make it interesting which is disapointing. It is a very hard class, so good luck!

This class isn't bad if you do the objectives as he says and pay attention. You have to study & go to labs. he's a lot of fun in lab. he came in for reviews & SI helps. i got a better grade than i thoguht i would.
