Great film professor. His film selection isn't mainstream, which is one of the best parts of a film course. His lectures are fun, deep, and promote participation and engagement. Fair grader, who'll take his time grading. His office hours are a must, he'll work with you on assignments and make sure you make the best paper possible.

My problem is simple: for a Professor who demands respect he never gives it back to you. He is always late (sometimes upwards of 10 minutes). Class often lacked focus and it was apparent that at times he was flying by the seat of his pants. If you put in the work you'll do well, but if you want to engage with film thoughtfully, you can do better

Without a doubt the best film professor at AU. He grades tough, but gives great feedback and is willing to work with so long you make the effort. A genuinely caring and funny guy who brings a great atmosphere to the class.

Awesome guy. Hard class but is funny and a really cool dude. He posts a lot on the syllabus but it is easy to sort out. Not and easy course. Take it if you actually want to learn something about film, not if you want to just gain extra credit. Has awesome office hours though, really helps and is almost always available. Would totally take again.

Middents, what a guy. Sometimes I cry over the syllabus, but overall the best I've had. Office hours are great! I don't think I'd watch 99.8% he puts on the syllabus, but I thoroughly enjoy every second of it. Not gonna lie, he's one cool dude. Take him, even if it's hard. you need a jeff in your life.

I still don't know how I feel about Professor Middents. Somedays I love him and other days I feel as if he's too harsh towards student's opinions. Regardless, he's a film fanatic and is the perfect fit to teach LIT 146. This is NOT an easy class. Read his directions for papers carefully because he expect a lot from you. Go to his office hours!!

This professor is amazing. Middents is not only very passionate about film but also a great person. He will be there for you if you are willing to put in the work. His class is certainly not an easy A, you have to read, pay attention and participate. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy credit, take it if you genuinely love film.

You have to write very well... he is a lit professor. Still, it comes easily with Middents' guidance. He teaches you to write for film and to analyze well for any type if media. He is fun and kind but i don't think he understands certain students. He is def a group atmosphere type of guy so you should see him on your own sometimes. He is very smart

High-energy, high-passion. Has so much to say that class will frequently run over time. Entertains hecklers, which makes class more interesting. Meticulous syllabi. Worst professor i've had at handing work back, although tests are graded quick. Coming from a film obsessive, this guy knows more about movies than God. Essays are graded about average.

What we were supposed to learn in this class was never made clear. We talked about random films rather than those required for homework. He didn't grade anything until class was over and then was overly critical. He was funny but that did not make up for the severe lack of focus in and about the class over all.

I loved film so much before taking his class. And now, I'm kind of blase about it. Yeah, he's energetic, but he can also be pompous in that you must agree with most everything he says. He's cool in office hours, but in class I think he tries too hard and it comes off as abrasive. His papers are rough. Heads up 30 page syllabus. Good luck!

A very entertaining, engaging professor, Middents knows what he talking about. He's funny and a little bit wacky, but in a good way. Go to office hours!! They're a ton of fun and you'll be able to go into a lot more depth than in class. Overall, great!

I had heard many good things about Middents and he lived up to the hype. He makes class discussions casual and engaging - everyone ends up talking and laughing. You get to re-watch films you know and discover new ones - it's good fun. Plus Middents will change the way you watch movies. A great course, good fun, and useful.

Overall, I really enjoyed his class. He has a blunt teaching style that I liked, but might not work for others. I learned a lot about films. However, in order to do well in the class you have to have to have to be a concise writer (for the 3 papers) and study for the final. I was doing well in the class but I didn't study enough for the final.

Expect copious amounts of textbook readings that WILL BE on the final. Different grading style with nit picky comments on papers that can be frustrating. Going to his office hours makes class a lot easier. Fun class for movie lovers.

Notice that most of the bad reviews here come from people who 1) have atrocious grammar, 2) have no interest in, or are derisive toward, cinema studies, or 3) never showed up to class. Middents is easily one of the best professors at AU; he's challenging but incredibly helpful, and I always leave class laughing.
