She is very personable and presents the material in an interesting way. I did not however take this course for those reasons. Her exams are only loosely associated with her lectures and the required textbook is hardly useful in learning the material as she repeatedly states her dislike for it. Don't take this class with this prof if you need a 3.0

Comment:

Very helpful professor. She has a very methodical approach to organic chemistry that makes it easy to understand. Always reminds students the importance of practicing on chapter problems and reinforces with a ten minute quiz before every class. If you pay attention and do your part, you will love organic. The best organic chemistry professor ever!!

If you are looking for an easy class with a teacher who lets you slide on grades, this isn't your teacher. If you put in the work then go to her for help, she will offer helpful advice or help you work through a problem. Great teacher, looking forward to Organic Chem 2!

Do not get behind! Right away get a tutor at the school (its free!) and go to her office hrs for help. Know the tiny details on the subjects, her tests have lots of multiple choice (they are tricky) and essay questions. She is great for asking about lab and helps you when needed to get things done with your experiment.

She tells us to do about 14 hrs a week of review with homework and it does really take that much time. Only take 1 other easy class with this.In order to do well on her tests you need to know every little detail on her lecture notes. Read the book! She is helpful only if she knows you put the effort into it first or else she wlll give you broad hin

Prof Batten was a very helpful teacher. She is very organized and her lectures are easy to follow. She does not make rediculous demands of her students and is always willing to help. An A is not unobtainable if you put in the time and effort to study and pay attention in class. Great professor!

Very nice teacher. Class is hard obviously, but what do you expect from a 5 credit course? She really knows her stuff though. You could ask any question in class and she will have an answer for you. This was my favorite class this year.

She is always willing to help you out if you are willing to put a lot of time into studying. She's great in lab; she always gave me pointers on how to get my reactions to work better - lab was my favorite. The more you study out of class, the better your grade will be. She wants you to succeed and understand!!! Just ask for help if you need it!

She is good at getting the material across, she tells you what she wants you to know, Organic Chemistry is no walk in the park, she will tell you to do 12 hours of homework a week if you don't want to fail.. that is no joke. She knows how to get the information across to the student.. makes class somewhat interesting and she is a very nice person!

Dr. Batten is a really good teacher. She can be kind of scary and intimidating at first but I think she's just trying to motivate her students to do well. If you take take her class seriously she's really nice. Tests can be difficult but she's very reasonable in her grading. I wouldn't take a heavy class load if you want an A.

Dr. Batten is an extremely good professor, who is very knowledgeable, and helpful. The class, however, is extremely difficult, and requires a huge effort to do well.
