While I think Hoover is an awesome instructor for marching band, I just did not like playing in his symphonic band. He plays a ton of marches and patriotic music (which is classic Hoover), but it gets annoying after awhile. He also tended to get easily annoyed at students during practice.

Hoover is a great guy! I have no clue why his ratings are so low on here. Although, some of the negatives may be true. He has taught me a lot through the years. Any class with him is amazing. I always love hearing his stories. My schedule is very spontaneous so I don't mind him making last minute request for class.

He is a wonderful guardian of all that is happy and jovial in music. He has a passion for music and students that is unrivaled at this university. As long as he has his staff and veterans to clarify what goes where, he is a good instructor. You must be patient with him, because he gets side-tracked. Will help anyone with anything! Great mentor!

Hoover...Where to begin? He's great. I've been involved in both his marching band and concert band. Yes at times he's hard to understand but he has one of the best band programs in the country! He may be old school....but the band program is FANTASTIC!!!

If you show up, do what is asked without causing problems that how you advance in the band. He cares about all of his students and is willing to do what he can, in and out of the classroom, to make sure they get what they can out of life. Yes, Hoover is old, but that just shows how much he loves his job and working with talented young musicians! Being a part of such a well-known program has given me some great experiences that I will always remember and Hoover is a big part of the success of this band! Sometimes difficult to understand but overall a very good instructor!

Hoover is old and it shows. He can seem easily distracted and short-tempered at times. That being said, he loves music and loves people. He's a jolly guy that constantly finds joy in life. His love of music stokes the fire in his student's hearts. Hoover IS music in human form. I was a section leader and his meetings were always easy and fun.

Hooooooove! Hoover is awesome. I love being in Pride. Pride isn't easy by any means - the time dedication is insane and if you're not a hardcore music major, you're going to be wondering why you're in Pride in the first place at times (like me, since I'm a psych major) but it's totally worth it and I'm so glad I did it.

The Pride at MSU is one of the best collegiate marching bands in the country, if not THE best, so expect the level of dedication that requires. Practice is about the same as a part-time job and it's necessary to maintain the excellence the program calls for. Hoover can be senile, but if you're flexible, you will love him.

Hoover is the reason that Missouri State Pride Band is one of the very best. It takes alot of work but it is so rewarding. Hoover is a busy guy but knows what he is doing. Band is his life and if you love marching and performing music then you will love Hoover. This band is a wonderful experience to carry with you forever.
