I just finished his Econ 201 class online and his tests are about as hard as they come. He asks Graduate level questions in an intro level class. The two tests that we had on campus he was late for.

Funny but mostly fell asleep in class. He posts every lecture notes online and straight out of the book. Intresting class but kinda boring and he would go off forever.

It is beyond me how or why such a majority of these comments are negative. Professor Eden is definitely not pompous, nor does he suffer from a superiority complex. He may have high expectations for grading purposes, but that doesn't make him a bad teacher. I studied, asked questions, read the textbook and as expected and deserved, received an A.

This guy called me up with a British accent and was a real spaz! I told him I needed proctoring and he went on to say I "didn't get it" and chewed me a new one. He's full of himself and ungracious. Boy, is he senile!? He makes weird discussion posts about going to the "funny farm" his mid-term and final reviews are useless. Just didn't like him.

This is the hardest class I have ever had online. Midterm and final are 75% of your grade and done on campus. Professor seems bothered when asked questions.

I took his Econ. class online last summer. It was difficult, but very enjoyable. He has a satyrical style of writing and teaching, and a dry sense of humor which helps if you are less than excited about economics ;-) If you do the work you get the grade... seems fair to me!

Agree that the teacher is a bit pompous but he's also fairly understanding. Difficult: 1) Understanding the grading, he expects As on all homework/quizzes because you *get to work together* and only gives an A to less than 10% of the class on midterm/final 2) Understanding the questions on the midterm/final.Muddled story questions. Not always avail

Midterm and Final were very different in context from what the Text and Quizes exhibit. Spent more time trying to figure out how the questions were relevent and then the answers were even more confusing. Very frustrating to study for hours on what may as well have been the wrong topic. Ithought i had the topic nailed...

This guy is a bit pompous and looks down on his students as inferior to him. He teaches an online class, yet he makes himself unavailable to answer emails on the weekends....which is when most online students do their coursework. Joel Magnuson is a better choice for an online economics instructor at PCC. He's smarter and easier to understand.

Online class was fine. Quiz every week. One or two book work questions every week. He replied to every online question and email within one day. Seemed like a nice person. Midterm and final is 60% of the grade all mutable guess. A lot of memorizing but he grades on a curve. Easy B if you study hard A.

If you want an easy A, do not take Jim Eden. If you want to learn something about economics, you will not find a better professor than Eden anywhere in Portland. He has an extremely dry (he's English) sense of humor and you can tell he wants his students to learn this stuff. He's a hard grader but I got an A and a B (EC 201,202).

Professor Eden is not good at explaining things to students. He knows the material very well but he is not able to relay the material to students so it is memorable or understandable. His teaching methods were not useful to me. I have been to four colleges/universities and he gets the "Worst Instructor in 4 Colleges Award!"

Cowardly, dishonest. Hides from students after term because he does not want to explain his grading. Won't let students see their tests so no one is sure if they actually did bad on his tests or if he is just arbitrary and vindictive. Kept screwing up weekly quizzes and then would just say "oh well I guess that chapter won't be in the final"

Snobby, makes one feel stupid in front of class. Tests are incomprehensible. Then he won't let you see what questions you missed. DO NOT take him for anything. Taking this class was the biggest mistake of my life.

Although I took this as an online class, and thus, was not able to meet Prof. Eden, he was very responsible to online questions. He also provided us with written copies of some lectures, and I wish I could have heard them "live." They were extremely creative, and made economics come alive! I would jump at the chance to take another class under him!

The Best, I attend PSU now and the Economic professors simply do not have the passion that Mr. Eden brings to Economics. Not an easy class but fair and if you study you will pass. I took Ec 200,201, 202 all from Professor Eden!
