Knowledgeable but bad teacher. Expects sculpture to be priority of all (even foundation) students, expects them to excel with minimal instruction and to turn in assignments he forgot to assign. Bad temper, huge ego. Always late, once left for an hour, no explanation. Love sculpture? Spend all your time on it? He's great. If not, god be with you.

He has a very specific idea on how things should be done and its hard to figure out what he wants. You have to think more about what he wants you to do than what YOU want to do. As a teacher he annoyed me and it was really frustrating trying to figure out what he wanted me to do. But he's a fair grader so as long as you do the work youll do well.

Jim is not as bad as people are making him out to be. His critiques are pretty harsh but get used to it because that's what the real world is like. If you listen, ask questions and show interest he'll help you as much as you need.

I've had great experience with the art department so far... with an exception of Jim Paulsen. His ego is through the roof, he loves to hear himself talk, he never gives clear answers to questions. His critiques are painful, he compares students to each other directly. Once called a girl "horse teeth" in front of the whole class. HOW IS THAT OKAY?

absolutely insulting and unprofessional oftentimes. hard to handle overbearing and self inflating personality. knowledgeable about sculpture but extremely closed-minded. wants you do create what he wants to see-not your ideas. critiques painful and he uses them to further inflate his ego and bring up old stories. 3 free absences.avoid at all costs

You need to take his class seriously or he won't take you seriously. Can be mean at times and often picks favorites so make a good impression at the beginning and you'll succeed. Knows his subject but goes off topic OFTEN and isn't entirely clear in instructions. Expects work outside of classroom. Is willing to help if you show you care.

I hardly have enough words to describe what an awful experience this class was. U won't know how ur doing in the class until the end of the semester. This prof. is annoying and outright rude sometimes. AVOID THE ART DEPT. AT TOWSON!!!! almost everyone in that department is really awful.

not a bad guy, but definitely not an easy-peasy professor. Asks for 4 hours outside of class each week, and calls you out on it if you dont put in the time. Has no problem telling you you need to "bury that" if it isn't good. Not really very focused and assignments aren't explained well. He'll cut you down, but isn't a harsh grader. Lots of work.

Awesome. The most interesting and fun class ever. We did installations in groups. His comments are very helpful and he doesn't sugarcoat the truth. If your work sucks, he lets you know. But, then he'll help you with ways to fix it.
