You will come to realize that Prof. Thomas is actually pretty cool and very knowledgable. At first, he comes off really irratitating and obsessive and in all fairness he is rather crazy about attendance, cellphone and internet use. BUT if you get past all that class was actually very interesting & not demanding at all! Also grades very easy!

he's very anal about attendance, deadlines, cellphones. he's really scary when he gets worked up about A TINY little thing. overall, if you hand in assignments in on time and write up some sh-t then you'll get -a..or a. he has his distinct teaching style: no lecture but discussion only. weekly readings sorta help. it's a love/hate relationship.

He was the best professor ever! His teaching materials are fascinating, I could almost grapple them to my soul with hoops of steel : ) My love for East Asia had grown to an unimaginable level. Definitely a must-take course.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Not a difficult class, but get ready to endure mood swings and fits of screaming/crying in the middle of class. Easy pass, but I definitely would not recommend this class to anyone if they have even a slight temper

The class is far from demanding, with the average mark being around a B+. A ton of reading, a tiny little essay every other week and then a big one at the end. NO TESTS. He's a bit of a scary-looking guy, but honestly he's harmless and a little boring. I'd recommend the class and plan to take another one with him next semester.

Awesome class! Very interactive with plenty of opportunities to write concise, thorough papers and immmerse into Korean culture under the prof's detailed knowledge of current and past Korean issues/trends in politics and economics. This prof really looks out for his students to make sure everyone performs to meet his high standards. Go Dr. Thomas!

The class was fairly easy, it's difficult to get a bad grade. Just a short essay every other week and a longer one at the end. The lectures were useless. Not very nice, and didn't seem willing to let the discussions go beyond the opinions of the authors and his own.

Actually mean, extremely cruel to students even though he appears to be nice. Example: one student gathered the courage to ask a question about why women were veiled, simple question, nervous girl, his response "have you attended class in the last three weeks? Have you done any of the assigned reading? I cannot believe you are asking this question.

this guy is a hick. skirts over the simplest issues and questions. although the material is fascinating, the lectures are uninspiring. he has a temper and will snap at students over insignificant things. he will be nice and smiles in public but he holds grudges, plays favourites.

Class is quite boring, the only thing worth coming for is signing the attendance sheet. No exams, and essays are based on readings and are graded harshly. Pressure-free end of the year presentation (can be anything from a paper to a poster). Overall, necessary class for my major but wouldn't attend if i didn't have to(and I'd still get a good grade

Sort of weird, there's a certain uneasiness to his behavior and facial expression, as if chronically holding up a urging****. Nevertheless, a good teacher who's done REAL fieldwork unlike some others. A lot of reading required, but if done so in time, be sure to expect a very good grade.

Amazing way of organising classes that ensures fantastic and stimulating class discussions, short papers that really make you consider every word you write carefully, and great class readings. His voice can be slightly monotonous, but he is kind and helpful, and open to suggestions. GREAT PROF WITH A LOT TO OFFER!
